Chemicals...even w/IVIg & MTHFR supplements?

I'm trying to get my head around why we've been able to get pg on our own & by IVF but have chemicals at 5w?

With our natural pg, I was on 25g IVIg, Heparin & baby aspirin. My initial beta was in the 50's, went up but then dropped.

With our last IVF, I had a very, very low beta number & it dropped 2 days later....tested 8 days post 3 day transfer & again at 10 days so by 14 days post ET, we were at 0. This time, I had 40g IVIg, Heparin, baby aspirin, Dexamethasone (0.75mg) & treated for homozygous MTHFR.

Are the chemicals because of bad eggs or because of the MTHFR, Factor V Leiden, endo, NK's, ATA's & being hypothyroid, are all of these combined the reason for our losses.

I'm beginning to wonder if we've had a few losses without even knowing....of course no proof without a beta done.

Do I still have a chance? Is there something possibly wrong with my uterus? Do you think that the "golden egg" could still come along? I'm 36 & feel like I'm running out of time! Been at this for 7 yrs.

Thanks,
Lexi

So sorry to hear your news...

I don't know if I can offer any insight to your situation - the only questions that come to mind are when did you start the dex & heparin. From what I have seen, most diagnosed immune pts will start dex and lovenox on CD6 (if these meds are suitable for their dx). IF their are clotting issues, even micro clots can be problematic prior to transfer and therefore should be treated early.

Did you have the opportunity to do PGD with any of the embryo's? Not sure that that's the answer either - just a question. What does your clinic have to say about everything?

I'm so glad to find you again! Miss the IVFC bb and updates from the group!

As for me - starting stims tomorrow. Nervous, anxious, excited and everything else in between.

Thinking about you and sending you hugs across the miles - hope you find the answers you are searching for soon.

Lexi - so sorry to hear about your losses

I had 2 chemicals when I started IVF and was told it was probably due to my age (38 at that time). I tested positive for ATAs but have normal thyroid function and doctors here do not believe ATAs are significant.

For my second FET I took low dose aspirin. We saw the heartbeat at 8 weeks, but it stopped around 12 wks. This time I was discovered to be heterozygous for Factor V Leiden.

Knowing now that I have a thrombophilia I credit aspirin with getting the last pg as far as it did and will see a haematologist tomorrow to talk about adding heparin as well.

My RE told me that he believed chemical pgs were a better prognostic sign than BFNs. I don't know that I believe in the 'golden egg' theory, but I do believe that sometimes it is a numbers game and comes down to good luck.

Are you also taking higher doses of folic acid with your MTHFR?

Lynn - Glad you found me here! I hope your stims are going well & soon, you'll be getting your BFP! Re: PGD...we can't because we never make blasts in a lab...and yet we obviously have a couple times in my body. During my IVF cycle, Dex was started a month prior to ER & Heparin started the day of stims. I take baby aspirin daily, whether I'm cycling or ttc on our own. I'll be thinking of you - let me know when ER & ET will be!

Josie - I'm so sorry about you losses as well - has got to be hard when you see the h/b & then m/c. I know that chemicals are tough enough! I too have been told that chemicals are a good prognostic sign, rather than always having BFN's. I found out that I had the homozygous MTHFR & heterzygous Factor V the day I began stims. I wonder if I had the proper supplementation in my body long enough??? I'm taking 4mg of folic acid, 50mg of B6 & 1mg of B12. I take extra a multivitamin as well so I'll be getting a bit extra of the B's through that. Thanks so much for responding!

I'm going to be the board hog and start a new thread with another question!

Hi,

I was wondering if any of you had done an endo biopsy to check for NK cells in the uterus. I've had many chemical pregnancies after my IVF cycles and it was because of the NKUs. Even though I was taking lovenox, dex, BA, IVIg, folgard, etc., IVIg would only bring down the NKs in my blood but did nothing for my NKUs.

Good luck to everyone.

Hugs,

Nit
