Progesterone shot routine
Check out youtube - there are some good do it yourself videos out there.
What we did that worked the best for me for hip/butt shots. Bend over the counter in your kitchen. Stand with toes facing inward and knees slightly bent - this relaxes the muscles in that area. Ice area first. While you are icing put a wet washcloth in the microwave and start heating it. DH should give shot quickly - no messing about. Mine got really fast. Inject slowly Use warm wet cloth on area after. Rub area hard as you can stand. Good luck!

I was actually told not to use ice for progesterone in oil because it causes the oil to clump up. You should be able to get numbing cream to help ease the pain of the shot. For me, it's not the pain of the shot that I have a problem with, it's the next morning when I wake up and feel like someone punched me in the backside!

I must be one of the lucky ones - I feel nothing (till the next day when the bruise appears). I lay on the bed (to take all weight off legs so muscle is not in use) and DH jabs it in there
He does it as if he's throwing a dart ??? it works!!! I also alternate right check, left check. Hope this helps!

After a month of shots, my bottom is definitely a pin cushion! But I do numb it with ice pack before and also warm the progesterone to a body temperature. That makes it easier to give, its thinner when warmer. Then I massage the area and use a heating pad that nite. Bottom still hurts, but it does help.

I couldn't have done it without ice packs. Totally numbed the area. Now I am a total woos in the docs office when I get a shot and it can't be iced down beforehand. Can I tell you my bottom hurt for over a month after I stopped the shots. It felt perm. bruised.

I don't use ice packs but EMLA (lidocaine) cream to numb the spot first. I put a dab on the spot, cover with cling film and wait 20 mins. I also put the syringe with PIO under my heating pad to make it warm. I think icing may numb the shot but doesn't help much with circulation. In my mind if you make oil cold it is thicker and harder to work with.

I am not real sure why some choose the shots over the suppositories. I think it's just a doctors preference. I am on the shots. What size needle are you ladies using? I am using a 22 gauge 1/5". It doesn't seem too bad....but maybe I just have a tough a$$!!! HAH.

Stretching your butt frequently will lessen the stiffness that sets in the next day:
Lie on your back and pull your knees up towards your chest. Even better, cross your bad leg over the other, knees bent, and pull the bad leg up towards the opposite shoulder. This is also a classic stretch for sciatica (a pinched nerve in the lower back/butt) - if you can't explain to nosy people at work why you can't walk properly, say it's sciatica. |
