The one thing I wish I would have listened to!
PG mentioned.
When I started my IF Journey a year and a half ago, I read many posts saying that a RE was much more superior to an OBGYN and if you had fertility issues you should see an RE. I did not listen to this advice. So my number 1 recommendation to everyone is to run, don't walk to an RE. At the very most maybe try 3 rounds of clomid w/ an OBGYN after that go to the RE. I spent 1 yr w/ my OBGYN because he got me pg 8 yrs ago on clomid. So of course I thought it would be no problem. 12 clomid cycles later and 2 IUIs still no positive. OBGYN started talking about injectables and I was out of there. I was not going to spend another dime w/ him. If you're paying out of pocket I would definetly still recommend an RE. I had to pay 100% of everything w/ OBGYN.... testing, ultrasounds, bloodwork office visits EVERYTHING. I've seen 2 different REs and I'm telling you, they know how to code invoices so your insurance will pay for them. All of my testing and office visits have been covered by my insurance, we're talking thousands of dollars worth of testing and all covered by insurance. The REs know what they're doing. Now, I will have to pay for my IVF cycle but I would have saved thousands of dollars if I would have nixed the OBGYN.
