PIO Tips

I just found an awesome video about how to painlessly self-inject PIO shots. I've heard several people swear by it. Here's the link:

Hope this helps!!

One thing she didn't do though that my RE & nurse drilled into us - be sure to pull back slightly on the plunger after inserting the needle to make sure that you didn't get a blood vessel/vein. If you do get blood in the syringe, you will need to re-inject at another site.

Great site! I have heard though that the type of oil the progesterone is suspended in (cottonseed, peanut, sesame) can have a lot to do with how thick it is and if you can really get it to come out of a 25g needle. Anyone have any experience with this???? I'm new to PIO -- just waiting on AF to show up so that I can start on 4th IUI. Always did the suppositories before, but I"m so over them.

Talked to my pharmacist, and it DEFINITELY depends on the type of PIO you are using whether or not you can use a 25g needle.... why the heck would anyone NOT want the thinner oil? Anyhow, picked all mine up yesterday, 2 vials, 40 needles and 40 syringes. I did have to ask specifically for the thinner oil, but just from the RPh, not the RE. I'm so excited to not be using the 22g!

my only advice is to do it higher on your butt, almost your hip, and it doesn't hurt at all (with the bigger needle, no less).

Bump!

BTW, you should NOT use alcohol after the shot to "dab blood' that's stupid. Not only will it burn like hell, but the swab is wet, the blood absorbs into the pad and does not allow it to clot or dry out to stop bleeding.

I don't have any problems with burning when DH swabs the little drop of blood away. I put my undies on right after and I never have any blood spots on them either.... hmmmm.....
