Your Regular IVF Dr. isn't always the one you get on Day of Transfer!!!
I didn't realize on the day of my transfer the surgical room is scheduled by day and you may or may not have your regular RE. You may be assigned a diff. RE from the practice. The RE who performed my transfer wasn't familiar with the nuances (sp?) of my body and I was really shocked to see an unknown doctor when I was "wheeled" into the room and was very uncomfortable with the fact she was seeing me for the first time on the day of transfer. Just so you are aware, it's a good idea to ask who will be the RE on the day of your transfer so you are not caught off-guard.
Also, I read many posts from women who were able to have their husbands present during the transfer. My DH was not allowed. I had an upsetting experience - needless to say I am no longer with that clinic that didn't prepare me for SQUAT!!!! Being more prepared would have made my experience less anxious. -Best of luck to all and I hope this helps even one person become more prepared!

i had a similar experience but freaked out and my regular RE came to the office to do the procedure. i'd worked with my RE for about 3 years and after multiple iui's and ivf's, i was able to concieve in 2006. we went in this year to try for our second child. his practice has really expanded and he now has 3 other doctors working for him. i had assumed we would see him for the main procedures (retrieval and transfer) especially since he did my 2nd consultation. my husband even asked me after they made my appointment at the surgery center. i assured him it would be my regular RE. when we got to the OR and i saw a different name on the consent, i almost burst into tears. this doctor had never done anything on me before. i left the OR, went to the office (in the same building thank god), and asked where my doctor was. he was in another clinic 40 minutes away. well they called him and he came for the procedure. i learned from this experience to always ask who will be doing the procedures. also, i would complain and perhaps your regular RE can be paged and come.

I hate this for you ladies. My RE doesn't operate this way and after reading your posts, I am so very grateful. We have another practice here in town that is more like what you've described. I went there breifly prior to finding my current RE and my BFF also used them. I deffinately think the experience brings on more anxiety and that is not what we need while TTC.
My current RE does all his own US, ER, ET, etc. The only time this hasn't happened is when he was in China on vacation and he made sure that I knew well in advanced before I decided to start a cycle that month. I hope that you all have better experiences in the future and maybe even find an RE that is more hands on. Best wishes and baby dust to you all!! ~Yancey |

I had my IVF cycles in Asia and I was surprised not to see my RE on transfer day, too.
So when I did the FET, I made a point that I wanted him to be there. And he was. Unfortunately, my arms are still empty. Waiting for my next fresh cycle in late Nov/Dec.

HI Ladies...
Just an FYI, my RE's office doesn't operate this way either...perhaps you should be shopping around? I didn't notice where you are all from, but I'm in MN and our RE's schedule you for the week that your RE is "on". In fact, this time around my RE was NOT scheduled, but because we have such a L-O-N-G history, he made sure he was there for both the transfer and retrieval. I'm waiting on Monday and Wed. now for my blood numbers.... Mary |
