Better ART outcome in interracial couples
This is not a race vs race thread. Rather, I enjoy progressive discussions. This is not meant to discourage anyone. I believe the author(s) intent to embrace this and related research/study is obvious and well-meaning. Noted omission(s) were made by me. Omitted section was interesting info for dataheads but not worth typing, I thought. You should be able to find it and more online.
http://humrep.oxfordjournals.org download via this page: http://humrep.oxfordjournals.org/con...pl_1/index.dtl download this file if you'd like see for yourself: ART, clinical: outcome Hum. Reprod. 2005 20: i115-i122. [PDF] I have been interested and am part of an extended mixed race family. Personally my recent results in IVF treatment greatly surprised myself and DH. We are an interracial couple (Caucasian and Afro-American). So I sought info on the subject of interracial embryos vs same race embryos. Now, I know I've just contradicted myself about contests but I've since found the correct expression: There is a trend for better ART outcome in interracial couples. excerpted (lovingly transcribed by yours truly) from The Abstracts of the 21st Annual Meeting of the ESHRE, Copenhagen, Denmark. 2005. P-322 There is a trend for better ART outcome in interracial couples. Introduction: It is surprising that after more than two decades of assisted reproductive technology (ART) experience, the effect of race of the couples on the outcome of ART has not been well-studied with scarce information in the literature regarding the outcome of ART among different races and in particular interracial couples. Based on genetic information, better reproductive outcome would be expected with more disparity between couples (e.g. interracial couples). Material and methods: OMITTED Results: There was a trend for all studied outcome to be better in the study group (interracial couples) compared to the control group (all same race couples). The clinical pregnancy rated and implantation rate in the interracial group were 53% and 25% versus 42% and 15% in the control group, respectively. The differences were statistically significant (p<0.05>. Same race African American subgroup tended to have least favorable outcome (lower pregnancy and implantation rates (37% and 14% respectively) as well as higher rates of pregnancy loss (33%). This was true even after controlling for other confounding factors such as age and presence of uterine fibroids The difference in the outcomes was not significant in the donor or FET cycles because the number of ART cycles included was not large enough. However, the trends for better outcomes in the interracial couples and less favorable outcome in African American were consistent in different treatment cycles. Multiple regression analysis suggested race to be and independent factor for the outcome of ART when all cycles were included. Conclusions: The race of the couple undergoing ART seems to be an independent factor determining the treatment outcome with a trend towards better outcomes (higher pregnancy and implantation rates and lower rates of pregnancy loss in interracial couples. Less favorable outcomes were noticed in African American couples. However, the skewed distribution of number of cycles among different races (particularly for more white race couples), in addition to the fewer treatment cycles in FET and donor subgroups are two major drawbacks limiting the validity of our data. More ART cycles need to be studied to validate or negotiate our findings and to quantify the values of prediction ART outcome. If these results are validated, it would encourage looking in depth into underlying mechanisms of implantation taking race into consideration while designing studies. thx fer listenin' bisous, maman

Well, I will say a prayer for you and your dh, that your IUI was successful
As for me, we conceived dd 3 yrs ago (naturally-but it took about 9 months). We ttc again for almost a yr before going to IF clinic. I went through 5 IUI's (BFN's), 1 IVF (BFN), 1 FET (BFN), 1 natural cycle (cancelled because I didn't ovulate), and 1 IVF (for our BFP!!! ).It was quite the ordeal, but I have heard of many people who get pregnant on their first try, so good luck to you!!! Keep us posted! |
