PIO suggestion

Hi all. I just wanted to let you all know some info. I have heard several women discuss PIO. I took PIO is seasame oil for my first IVF. I itched and it hurt. I think I had a reaction. I have heard other woen discuss the itching.

Anyway, my RE switched me to PIO in olive oil. It doesn't hurt when I walk, and it doesn't itch.

Just thought Iwould let you all know. My RE is thinking of starting everyone on PIO in olive oil.

You could have had a reaction to the oil. Usually peanut reactions are not uncommon.

Olive oil sounds great. I'll be sure to keep that in mind when my RE start rambling about PIO.

Thanks,

CS

I have nothing to compare it to -but I seem to react to everything, so I started with oilve oil and I haven't had any probs (knock on wood) although it's only been 10 shots so far.

Take your shots in your ventreal gluteal site (hip area.)

Just a suggestion that I wish I would have taken a week earlier... AMAZING one... I had my nurse draw targets on my (hip/butt area) where I can easily reach. I still have my husband shoot me but OMG OMG it DOES NOT HURT and it doesn't bleed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's truly a miracle and I want others to know about it. Why doesn't anyone tell us?? AAAHHH!! For those of you who do it yourselves... this is the answer! I'm not dreading my PIO's at all anymore. It's great! Good luck! And try it.. you will not be sorry!

lianyla - Would you mind being more specific as to exactly where you had the shot? I am nervous about it and will take any advice I can get! Thanks so much.

hey, First of all, ask your doc if it is okay to shoot ventral gluteal or not... Some say no. I think they say no cuz it's a smaller muscle.. I'm not sure. It is directly below your hip bone. Right in that muscle. ASk your nurse about it, he/she will draw it on if you're allowed to shoot there.

Also, just to ease your mind a little.... I was WICKED WICKED scared about the PIO shots. Like panicking for 4 mos about it. After the first one, I was like "OMG that is what I was worried about??" I numb the area for 15 minutes with very cold ice and use EMLA cream one hr before. After your nurse draws your butt targets, MAKE SURE your husband or whoever is AIMING HIGH in the target NOT LOW!!! I found this to be crucial to pain, bleeding and soreness. The higher he shoots the less of all evils!! okay? Also, I heat the PIO up in hot water for 15 minutes while I'm icing. IT will go in faster.

The funny part is, that I am one of the lucky ones who had to do 2 per day after I got my positive beta!! So... one a day was a piece of cake and now it's totally no big deal!! You'll get used to it real fast!!

I've heard that if you bend over a chair and lean on the opposite site being shot. This allows the buttocks that is getting the shot to be relaxed and not tense. The relaxed muscle will allow better absorption of the PIO

another suggestion for comfort: you can also heat it up in the syringe between your skin and your bra while you do other things.

And, I had a great nurse tell me if you're doing it in the hip area (not ventral gluteal, I haven't tried that yet) to stand on the opposite leg, lean against the wall with your forearms, and turn the toe of the injection leg inward, that relaxes that muscle really well.
