progestering in oil doses

I am about to go on PIO for my third cycle of IUI and am wondering what others taking the in oil have taken and what they found helped to inject it in the thigh. Planning to do it myself.

Hi, Gina!

I did progesterone in oil for my last IVF and I injected 1 cc every evening. I am not sure if you can go in the thigh, since it has to be in the muscle. I inject myself in the butt (the upper outer part).

Good Luck.

Before choosing the PIO I talked with the pharmacist about the options and asked about the IM injections and you can do rump, thigh, even your outer upper arm as long as it is a large muscle. I used to also give my injectable fertility meds there as well.

Price difference at least under my insurance is $13 for retail and $25 (3 month supply) for the PIO, $35 for retail and $75 (3 month suppply) of the pill form, and lastly the vaginal meds are $200-300 without insurance coverage for one month.

labrdogs,
something i do to help the PIO inject painlessly is to warm the vial up in my hand for a couple minutes prior to injecting. i also massage the site right after the injection and walk around a bit. you can also apply a heating pad the the site if it is still sore. good luck! you're brave to do it yourself. i'm such a wimp, i have to have my DH do it!

I asked my nurse about alternate injection sites (my DH is on a trip) and she also said the thigh would be fine, but to not put the 1.5" needle all the way in like we would in the rump. She said about an inch in would do it - she even felt my thigh before saying this - I guess to see how much fat vs. muscle there was. She said people's biggest problem with doing them theirselves is that it's a big needle and it's just difficult to jab it in hard enough on the first try - self protection kicks in. We'll see tonight I guess.

After the first time doing the pergonal a year ago it was hard then, but once you do it once or twice it isn't that bad. Trick I found for a little less pain with those shots is to pinch the skin and inject there. Has more give this way. I actually hate when DH does the shots hate the when it is coming.

I have my two vials of 5oml and are on a 1cc in the evening for the next 14 days and then test and continue with it if it is a +.

I'll have to remember to warm the vial up. I know this is way thicker than the other injectables I have taken. Have you found you bruise at all from the PIO shots.

I've also found that walking around a bit after helps decrease the soreness a lot. I do this and then hit the heating pad. I do have bruises, but I can't see them.
