Increased folic acid may increase twins/multiples
There was a news story the other night saying that there seems to be a link between increased folic acid intake and the possibility of multiple births when doing IVF. They were talking about women who are supplementing their regular multivitamins or prenatal vitamins with more folic acid. So, I guess if you would like to have twins or more, start beefing up on the folic acid!

That's funny I just had IUI and my gynae told me to take 3 folic acid tabs a day instead of 1 because of the fact that there were definitely 2 eggs and possibly a 3rd so if there was twins or more then I would be supplementing enough!

I called my doctor today and he has asked me to take Folic acid 5mg twice a day. Seems very high to me. I have to go for my ultrasound in two weeks and so I may just keep taking the tabs until I see him..

I take way more folic acid than all you ladies due to a genetic disorder and I was told you can't o.d. on the stuff, so don't worry. I've never heard about the twins thing but I'd sure like to know!

I stopped taking my extra folic acid supplement b/c I just switched taking my prenatal vitamins and metformin at different times...met depletes folic acid.
Perhaps I should start again just in case! LOL! |

Paeta,
I did not know met depletes folic acid! If it does, make sure you don't stop your folic acid!! You do know that not enough folic acid can lead to neural tube defects and anacephaly, right? It is SO important to pregnancy for ALL women. |
