Long cycles after IVF
For all those new to IVF, I thought I would share part of my experience to save you some worries. The first AF after a cycle of IVF arrives pretty promptly when you stop the progesterone, but be warned that the cycle after that is often veeery long. My AF arrived 10 days late, I was very worried about it because I knew pregnancy was impossible, but when I made inquiries I found out that it is common, and due to a bit of a hormone imbalance.

Thanks for the info. I haven't had AF since March 1 (my IVF cycle in Feb resulted in mc after 2 weeks). I've been freaking all week b/c I really need AF to get here so I can start up on my 2nd round of IVF! Thanks for letting me know that what I'm experiencing is normal!!

Thanks so much for this posting. I think I'm at least 10 days late for AF now (first full cycle after failed FET) and it's driving me crazy! I thought maybe just maybe I was preg. (I'm taking a break from fertility so no meds or b.c.), but 2 at home preg. tests were negative. In any event, it's nice to know that this is somewhat normal. Thanks again!

Well, AF finally arrived late last night. Whoppeee!!! This is the first time in two years I've been happy to get it! :-) Now I'm well on my way to IVF #2!!It's ironic because I spoke with my nurse just yesterday and she wanted me to come in for bloodwork to see if I should take Provera. Maybe everyone already knows this, but Provera can be used to induce AF after taking Progesterone. Anyway, just thought I'd post this so all the gals out there know that it is definitely normal not to get AF on a regular schedule after a failed cycle and that Provera might be an option for getting your body back on track. Oh, the things we put our poor bodies through!!! :-)

Katie, all the very best of luck for you next IVF!!!
Lisa, glad I could be of help, funny that I actually considered not posting about this but when I thought back to my feelings with late AF, I knew I had to give someone else some peace of mind....it is a rare enough comodity in IF. |
