    1. Sticky Thread Sticky: I wish someone HADN'T told me that!

Hey Ladies! You've all had some great advice and words of wisdom on this board; keep it coming! But I know for a fact that all of us IF sisters have heard plenty of not-so-great advice and I thought it would be fun for us to start a thread of the advice that makes us roll our eyes and the stuff we...

    1. How to survive a baby shower

Anyone have any good tips on surviving a baby shower? I know many of us avoid them if we can, but there are some that we just can't skip. So are there good ways to make it bearable other than bringing along your therapist?

    2. You'd think a doctor would know this stuff, but many don't!

Hi there, I'm a doctor (who formerly had a major needle phobia, that is, of receiving, but not giving, them) and currently undergoing my first IVF cycle. It's an eye-opening experience in all sorts of good ways. Do any of you have any useful advice (big or small) for undergoing your first IVF...

    3. Some fertility meds have the same symptoms as pregnancy

I couldn't believe that my doctor didn't tell me that many of the meds in both an IUI and IVF cycle give symptoms like sore breasts, constipation, nausea, etc. I kept getting my hopes up, only to get BFNs. I think I do better when I am realisitically optimistic, rather than convinced that I am...

    4. I wish someone had told me to keep my mouth shut!!!

Ok, so here's the deal. This is a little bit of a rant, sorry, I'm still shaking over this. I've told almost no one about my IF except for a few very carefully chosen friends. My family doesn't know. My boss doesn't know. At work, I told 4 close friends, all of whom were told that I wanted no one...

..... it is NOT enough for a woman in her twenties/early thirties to 'be sure to get yer yearly pap smear.' THERE IS THE MALE SIDE OF THINGS, when it comes to reproduction. I wish someone had told me that: early in your relationship (when you both are pretty darn certain that 'some day' you want...

    9. Interesting New Study

I stumbled upon this on popular science... Apparently they've discovered a way to generate new human eggs using ovarian stem cells. Obviously its use as a fertility treatment is far away but this is very hopeful! Here's a link to an article about it:...

    10. Egg retrieval causes constipation!

That pretty much sums it up. My ovaries are sore and now they're being pushed on by gas & everything else to do with the bodily system responsible for constipation. There is not enough room for everybody in there. If I had known beforehand, I would've taken a saline enema before retrieval and...

Hi everyone, This is this is my first post and I am completely new to this and not familiar with alot of the jargon etc. I am newly single as of mid 2011. I am 34yrs old (I turned 34 in October). I started to worry about my single status and wanting children so I had my AMH levels tested this...

    12. Get all the financial information you can before starting IVF

Like most IVF patients, we were given the standard cost sheet for the clinics we spoke with (three clinics). I asked a lot of questions- I'm the type that has to know everything before I agree to anything. As we moved down the IVF road, there was more information and I asked more questions- I...

I had mine yesterday. I broked down and cried afterwards, it hurt so badly. I'm wondering if any of the other tests are going to hurt like that.

    15. Ask if your clinic "closes" during your cycle

It never occurred to me that my RE clinic closed once a month. I guess it makes sense for them to clean labs, etc. but I never thought to ask. As a result, I'm stimming later than expected which means ER and ET is later too. Be sure to ask especially if you have a timeframe in mind for the process....

Now that I am an IVF vet I hear people saying that your first IVF is like a trial run. I agree with them, but I had nooooo clue when I first started off. I thought IVF would be our magical cure. I am not trying to be negative, but I thought some of the newbies should know that there is a good...

    17. Stupid News Articles

Ok so obviously as an infertile women I am a little defensive when it comes to the pregnancy choices of others. My opinion is don't mess with mine and I won't mess with yours. Period. But I cannot stand by and let smug women who obviously have never had a minute of problems conceiving judge...

    18. Amalgam tooth fillings and infertility

I've read quite a number of articles on the net that link amalgam fillings with infertility (because amalgam fillings leak mercury into the body and affect hormones). However, the dentist didn't warn me about that when she did the fillings for me, and the FDA website insists they are safe....

    19. Fertilized or unfertilized eggs?

I am 41 and making the decision to either freeze all fertilized or half unfertilized/half fertilized eggs. Because of age, I'm leaning towards the former given increased viability potential for fertilized. Anyone know of any science or have experience about viability of fertilized vs. unfertilized...

    20. IVF vs Tubal Reversal

Hi all, I had a tubal ligation (coagulation) in my 20's. In my mid 30's was overcome with huge desire to have baby with dh. 21. How not to bite someone's head off.

So the "I wish someone HADN'T told me that" thread is full of cringe-worthy "advice" that our maybe-well-meaning friends, family members, coworkers, etc. have given us over the years (and years, and years, and years). Kime's post on that thread got me thinking about how we all want to bite...

Hi everyone - Eventually my RE told me about the low residue diet to help with extreme bloating due to hormonal treatments - but only after I came in prior to my IUI with a HUGE bloated belly!
