Healthy Living 90 days prior to TTC

Apparantly it takes approximately 100 days for a woman's eggs to reach the ovulation stage and that they are susceptible to damage during those 100 days (according to Dr Sherman Silber and also Traditional Chinese Medicine and Dr Randine Lewis). Dr Randine Lewis recommends giving yourself 3 menstrual cycles of healthy eating and living and cutting out unnecessary medications etc prior to starting to try to get pregnant. Doing this will, apparantly, get your eggs in healthy shape. Especially, I think, if you are over 35 years old, when there seems to be more egg damage. I came off of my prescription meds (of course not everybody is able to stop their medications and would do themselves more harm than good- check with your doctor) mid Jan and I think (however much I hate to wait) we will wait the 90 days before trying. I'm eating really well and exercising as well. Hope all of this benefits baby in the long term and makes it easier for us to conceive.
Also, sperm production takes about the same time (90-100 days) and a man should also use that time to get in good shape (diet, exercise and cutting out unnecessary medicines, getting enough zinc and selenium). I read that a bad fever can damage sperm.
This is just what I have read, so don't take it as gospel. It seems to make sense to me. Best of Luck to you all,
Elaine

I think there is truth in what you say because my husband and I spent over 2 yrs. TTC. After 1 yr TTC, we were anxious about going to see a fertility doc because we knew that I had hormone issues (PCOS). But our insurance didn't want to pay for it. In their opinion we had not tried long enough. We had to keep trying for at least another year. In Feb of '08 our waiting period with the insurance company was going to be up. Knowing this, we stopped actively TTC that summer (of '07). We did, however, make some healthy changes to our lifestyle. It was really just to get in better health and hopefully to lose some weight. We ate LOTS of leafy greens, cut out a lot of fat and salt from our diet, stopped drinking soda, etc. This was Sept of '07. I got pregnant that December. I found out in January...literally days before I going to schedule an appt with a fertility doctor.
