fallopian tube removal on 10/20(need advice)

Hello. I am new to these forums. I just wanted some opinions on fallopian tube removal. I am scheduled to have a laparoscopy done on 10/20 to remove my right tube which has hydrosalpinx. I have had two failed IVF cycles and before we move on RE wants to do the surgery because he thinks the fluid is leaking into my uterous and causing it to kill the embryo's. I went for my pre-op and I had to sign all sorts of consent forms just in case of a complication like, hemmoriging(spelling?), bowel obstruction and cutting an artery and bleeding to death. I know there are risks with every surgery but this just made me extra nervous/doubtful about getting it done. The RE also mentioned that I would be intubated to keep my o2 levels stable. Has anyone ever been intubated and have no throat problems afterwards? I would love to hear from anyone who has had any of this done and for them to tell me they are ok. I know I need to do this in order to get PG but I am just really scared. Thanks for all your help

Kelly

Hi Kelly,
Welcome to the board! Surgery is always a little frightening, especially after reading all those scary forms they give you. But try not to let it get to you...it really will be okay! I've had many surgeries and other than a bit of a blood pressure problem, everything has gone as planned. I've never even had a sore throat from being intubated. You'll do just fine....

I did not have your surgery but had lap. and hysteroscopy. I never had any effects from being intubtaed. My throat felt fine. My operation was 2 hrs. I was more mentally freaked by the idea. The anesthesilogist assured me that I would not wake up pulling tubes out of my throat, etc...I saw one too may ER episodes! Some people recommend bringing a throat spray and lozenges post surgery. My biggest complaint was the pain to pee post op. They put in a urine cath. and never told me. When I woke up, they had already removed the cath. but it traumatized my opening and it hurt like hell to pee. You will be fine with your throat...just be prepared for painful pee-ing.

Hi, Wow the things we have to do to get PG! A few years ago (5) I became pregnant but it was ectopic. Long story short my tube ruptured and I had to go in for emergency surgery to remove my right tube. My throat was a little sore when I woke up nothing more than what I'd feel if I was just getting sick and had a sore throat. I had the catheter in for a day and it felt gross when they pulled it out but I don't remember it being painful. I didn't enjoy having my stomach muscles cut into and it took a few weeks to heal. It was very sore and tender. I had a pillow whereever I went to hold against my stomach when I needed to cough or sneeze.
I didn't have a planned one so I didn't know who was going to operate and everything still turned out fine. You have a planned day to have this surgery with a highly skilled surgeon. You'll be fine, very anxious and stressed but just look at it as something you have to do. Maybe even talk to your doctor about getting some anti-anxiety meds to help with the nerves.
Hope this helps. GL

Hi, Kelly,

I was in your shoes on October 1, when I had my one tube removal (salpinectomy) due to hydrosalpinx and another tube was ligated. Almost the same procedure as you will be going through. I also had one IVF (got pregnant with PGD embryo blasts) and lost twins at 8 weeks due to hydrosalpinx. Then FET failed as well. I was so angry at my hydrosalphinx that it causing me to lose my perfect embryo blasts.

Just ask God to give you strength. I did and it helped me alot. I came in and was as calm as never before. Even joked and laughed. My husband was on bussiness trip that day and wanted me to reschedule, but I was ready to do it even without my hubby. Throat was a little sore for couple days. I felt very little pain when I woke up. I did not feel any pain while pee-ing (sorry). I just had about 2.5 hours before I was able to go pee. They won't release me until after I pee-d. Remember to have someone to drive you home afterwards.

You will be fine. Just think that you will be pregnant really soon.

Hi. I'm new to this board as well. Had ovarian cyst removed from both my ovaries almost 2 yrs ago. Was in-tubated, had a catheter, and the whole 9. My throat was a little sore and my voice sounded as if I were horse, but no big deal. I had an overwhelming feeling of needing to 'pee' and had to remind my self I had a catheter and to just relax. The catheter was removed the day after surgery. Felt a little sting, but again no big deal. The only issue with surgery is that it can cause complications in other areas. Went in to have cyst removed and ended up with hydrosalpingx in my right tube. Now I'm facing surgery again to have the tube removed. So I understand your concern. I've rescheduled my salpinectomy until I build up the nerve. Any thoughts?
