Laparascopy Surgery Advice???
My husband & I have been TTC for 3 years. My doctor says laparascopy surgery is the next step to see why we can't conceive. I need some advice so I can work up the courage to go for laparascopy surgery. I have had the Hysterosalpinogram where they inject a dye in the tubes and all was good there. I don't know if I can work up the courage, but I know I will eventually talk myself into it because I want a baby so bad. Can anyone tell me there experience with this and if they had any complications after??

I'd do laproscopy again no problem. I had two incisions - one just below my navel and one on my bikini line. Both required no stitches.
The first few hours after the laproscopy, I slept. The second day, I felt tightness into my neck, shoulder and down into my back (from the CO2 that they put into you during the procedure). Pain was easily relieved with Tylenol. The third day, I felt good enough to go back to work.
My biggest problem after the procedure - the bikini line incision kept coming open, which was easily fixed by a trip to the family physician.
For me personally...the laproscopy was a walk in the park.

I was so scared and put it off but it was no big deal. I didn't even have the shoulder pain from the gas that some people complain about! Go for it!!

I've had two laps. Please visit the Endometriosis board and read this thread: http://www3.fertilethoughts.com/foru...d.php?t=320818 ("Lap... If only I had known"), which will give you more info than you can imagine.

Hi,
after almost 2 years not being able to get pg Dr. decided we needed a lap. to check if everything was fine (before ttc i was pg twice naturally but m/c both). I knew i had to do if i want to have a baby. Of course once i arrived at the hospital and when i was waiting for my turn i was soooo scared that i wanted to run from there. But now looking back it was nothing to worry, as Hollywood says "a walk in a park! and the same feelings as Hollywood described.
Now, for me it is as long they give full anesthesia, you can do whatever you want! They found out my tubes were blocked and we had to do IVF.
Good luck with Lap! as long you are getting done with the best reliable doctors go for it. I don't mind doing it again if it is required.

OceanGirl, I had a lap and a hysteroscopy in December, under general anesthesia, and it was no problem. I was really freaked out about it because I had never had surgery before. I was already going in for the hysteroscopy, due to polyps, but RE wanted to do a diagnostic lap while he was at it. I was afraid of the anesthesia, which turned out to be a piece of cake. I just went to sleep and when I woke up it was over! I think I was mostly afraid of what they would find when they did the lap. I didn't want to hear anything bad. I vaguely recall coming out of the anesthesia and asking my RE if I have endo because I was so worried about that. Turns out I did have a little, but he said it wasn't enough to cause any problems. He went ahead and removed it, though.
Recovery was no problem. I had a little tenderness and some shoulder pain, but really I was up and around within a couple of days.
Surgery and diagnostic tests are always scary, but I'm sure you'll be fine!

I've had three laps. Recovery really isnt that bad, I went home the same day for two of them (one I styed in the hospital for a few days because here in Japan they dont allow anyone to go home same day)
Good Luck!

hello oceangirl - have you decided?
Hello,
Have you decided if you are going to take the next step and get laparoscopic surgery?
I am 36 next month and have been TTC #1 since May 2005. I had an HSG in December and a post-coitus test in March. I also had a CA 125 blood test on day 14 and 21 of my cycle. The number was high enough that my doctor wants to go in and see if there is endo or something else causing our infertility. I'm having my lap this Monday, April 3.
I'd be happy to tell you how mine goes if you are interested. Have a good weekend and I'm happy to chat if you'd like.

Thanks for all your advice and encouragement. I decided to have the surgery done. I am scheduled for May 4th and scared as hell. Can't wait till its all done though. We are ready to move on to infertility treatments but this has to be done first. I will let you all know how it goes.
Don't know if I mentioned we had DH have a second opinion and a 2nd SA. The results were low motility, low count. I have a feeling they will find endo though. I have had extremely painful periods since I got my first period at 11 years old. The pain can be so bad that I feel like passing out. I take Ibuprofen 400's which seems to help. I know this type of period is not normal. Does anyone else experience painful periods such as this? And have you been diagnosed with endo?
