endo pain???? please read

Hello,
New to this board. Wonder if anyone can help.
For almost 3 years now, (can't believe its been that long)
I have been suffering from extreme lower back (around the tailbone area)
pain, also in my hips (the joints). It is mostly when I'm seated for long periods of time (20 minutes or more) and when I sleep. It gets so bad it wakes me up about 4am every morning. Its getting worse, over the counter pain meds aren't helping. I 'm nervous about asking for stronger pain med.
A little background. I'm 36. I have stage 4 endo, have had 2 laps,
did IVF which resulted in a pregnancy but ended in miscarriage and
also had a D+C. It seems that since the miscarriage thats when the pain begun.
I don't know if it is coincidence or not.
My doctors are trying to steer me towards a hysterectomy. Did anyone have symptoms like these that led you to a hysterectomy?
Did it resolve your endo pain issues?
Did it bring on any new isssues?
I'm posting this question on a few different boards .
I appreciate any answers.

Hello Lisa....

I'm sorry to hear you are having such pain issues. Lower back and hip pain are quite common with endo. I had alot of tailbone pain and aches down the back of both upper leg areas. Don't let your doctors talk you into a hysterectomy if you feel you are not ready for that step yet. There are options out there. First of all please don't hesitate to ask for stronger medications....there are many different kinds of pain meds out there. There are also doctors that specialize in pain management. Other things you may want to consider is further treating the endo by having another Lap, trying medications such as Lupron, or birth control pills. If one doctor's answers don't satisfy you then get another opinion. I know it can seem overwhelming....

but don't do anything you don't feel ready to do.

When and if you do decide to have a hysterctomy, there are alot of things to consider. I have much information in the threads pinned at the top of this board that you may find helpful. Speaking from experience....for some women...surgery is the only answer. I'm glad I did it. For me it was the right thing to do.

Thank you so much for your info. It is so helpful.
Though I am a mother now to a beautiful baby from China (and wouldn't change it for anything) and at peace with not conceiving, I feel I'm not ready for a hysterectomy. I have an appt with my doctor this month and will explore some pain meds and another lap.
