Nico - congrats!! I love the name too! So how is he doing? When will they do the MRI? I know what you mean about being a family of 5 feeling a bit surreal! I love it, but right now while I am recovering things aren't as great as I am sure they will be! How are you feeling?

Carole - BFing is a no go this time too I was pumping a lot and nothing would come out (like I wouldn't even get enough to cover the bottom of the bottles). and I was trying to nurse her and only give her a bit of formula and at her one week appointment, instead of gaining weight she had lost even more. That made it pretty clear to me that I am not giving her very much at all and if she is going to need formula at every feed (which is what they said) then my milk production would definitely not go up. Plus I was getting infections and she had such a shallow latch that it was so painful so I have stopped already. I was also taking a drug that is supposed to make some men able to breastfeed!! and it still wasn't helping. It's too bad but I am OK with it.

Maddie and Riley are pretty good with Kaylee. Maddie gets upset when Kaylee gets a soother or a bottle because she wants one too. I think Riley feels somewhat replaced by the new baby because I sit on the couch holding her a lot (because I don't feel well enough to do much else). Riley is used to me being a VERY active mom and doing lots of "fun" things with her so the fact that I can't do what I used to do, and that I am now holding the new baby is very obvious to her. She does like to help with diapers and hold Kaylee though which is really sweet.

Thanks for the reassurance about exercising. I was reading online about a lot of people who hurt themselves by doing too much too soon and that was a good thing for me to read. It has made me very aware that I need to take things slow and not be stupid by doing too much too soon.

    Congratulations to Kathleen and nico!

Sorry things we're so rough Kathleen. Do you have much help at home? Kaylee is beautiful.

Nico - how is Cameron doing? You look amazing in your hospital picture with all the boys!

Hey guys! Sorry I haven't posted here, lots going on! We just got home from the hospital yesterday, I'm writing my birth story and what happened in the hospital out on my noperiodbaby blog if you're interested. Short version is that labor was a very quick 3.5 hours start to finish, three pushing contractions and that was it! We had one terrifying episode when he stopped breathing for 10-15 sec, fortunately it happened when we were in the nursery with a nurse right there. But it meant we got sent to the NICU for extra observation and testing, so didn't get to go home for a few extra days. Anyway, we're home now, he's eating like a champ (which is great because he's still quite jaundiced, and nursing / pooping is the best way to get rid of that), and life is good

K, I'm sorry that nursing didn't work out again, but glad you realized it early. Honestly, it means you can get a lot more sleep!! I haven't slept more than six hours in a night since C was born, and about 45 min the night it happened so I'm definitely running a sleep deficit.

Boys are totally loving their little bro, very cute and gentle with him (at the moment) and love to sing him hush little baby (with some verses I made up, lol) when he's crying, which does actually calm him down. I need to get it on video, it's so sweet!

Sorry can't write more, he's asking for milk!

Nico - It sounds like your NICU experience was similar to ours with Riley in regards to ALL the docs coming and just the hecticness of trying to keep up with everything all at once. It;s weird to have your baby and then leave the hospital without them isn;t it? I hated that. I did likethe feeling that my baby was being well looked after though. It sounds like all your test results are coming back with some great news. How are you feeling emotionally now that C is here??

So i thought my recovery was going pretty well- then last night I banged myself on the counter pretty much at my incision and it started o bleed ans the whole area around it is sore and it feels weird now - ugh. I don't have a family doc (HUGE shortage where I live) so I don't really know what to do. I am just worried because DH goes back to work in a week and I need to be able to care for all three by then and now I feel like this is a big setback...

    Congrats Kathleen and Nico!

Kathleen - Sorry things didn't work out for you with the breastfeeding, I can understand your disappointment, but I swear I know MORE women who couldn't get it to work than those that can!

Nico - How is C doing? How are you feeling?

Kathleen, so sorry to hear you injured yourself! I hope that it was minor and won't affect your recovery. How are you feeling today? I actually stayed with Cam in the NICU because I was nursing him (or attempting to anyway) so didn't want to be driving back and forth through the night. They had a really crappy cot I slept on, super uncomfortable! I'm feeling so much better about just about everything now that I'm actually able to hold him in my arms, and even more so with all the tests coming back with just minor things. Definitely a big weight off my mind. Just normal postpartum tears, I think My DH goes back to work tomorrow, I'm a little nervous about how things are going to go, as for the past two weeks he's been getting the boys ready for school, making their lunches, playing with them while I'm nursing Cameron - definitely going to be harder without him around!

Spin, thanks for checking in - I'm feeling WAY better than I was over the weekend. Figuring things out day by day!

If anyone's interested, I posted Cam's birth story on my blog (see my signature) xo

ugh! seriously, my post just disappeared!

    ok, once more.

i'm a mess. ellie has always been more startle-y than sarah, but i am now really scared it may be infantile spasms (seizures) rather than just exaggerated moro reflex. went to ped last week and said only way to tell is EEG, so waiting to hear from children's hospital to schedule, hopefully this week. i'm just a mess..... i don't even know what is normal anymore and just watching her constantly and freaking myself out. yesterday was pretty awful, but today has been a little better. i guess i can only handle being in a super stressed state for so long. i don't know.. i've banned myself from doing anymore internet research. i have already read so much scary stuff....

please keep her in your thoughts!

hope you all had a happy mother's day!

spin- just read about big a's party. craazy! hopefully i will not be tempted to host so many in our house! bdays are so $$$, but seems worth it to just do it elsewhere!

nic- how'd it go without dh? how are you all doing? my dh was gone all last week. i was so worried, but actually went ok! until i started freaking out...

Carol - I am sure she's fine! Avery was the same way and I was temporarily worried and it turned out to be nothing. Also she seemed to startle/jerk her limbs and then start shrieking as if she had been startled, but my husband's uncle, who is a doctor, said infants often get spontaneous spasms in their bowels as their digestive system develops, which can cause brief pain.

Yeah, the party was really awful. I couldn't say much on my blog, but there was one kid, in particular, who was rude and really poorly behaved (a girl) and she would start acting up and then the others would follow her lead. A few of them were so ****ed disrespectful, it was really shocking. And one little boy - you guys are NOT going to believe this - grabbed my crotch and said, "I'm looking for weannies." Whatever the f*k that means! I said to Adam, "I've been sexually assaulted by a 6 year old." I was so utterly shocked, I didn't even respond. Some people think I should tell his parents (who are very nice people!), but I just can't bring myself to do it.

spin - omg. thanks for laugh! i needed it! though not really funny. i might tell his parents. you definitely hope he is not grabbing the girls like that! i'm sorry about all the rudeness. so disheartening and worrisome that they are alana's friends!

thanks for reassurance. she has seemed fine today. hopefully is just a little developmental blip. EEG scheduled for tomorrow, though think it'll be a couple more days until we hear
