Carl - saw your post on mmr , my son got a reaction 2 weeks after the shot , I called the ped and they said it was too long for a reaction , turned out that he had strep throat.. it might be worth calling the ped..

jaymie - congrats on the girl

Nico - that is so so scary...I cant imagine what you went thur those couple of minutes....glad timmy is doing well.

Brenda - i was with the OB with both my kids and he typically does a u/s at 7+ weeks to see hb.. it might be worth asking

nico-oh my gosh! that is so scary. i'm glad timmy is ok. choking worries me so much...no, i was not seeing an re. my ob typically has patients come in around 5-6 weeks to meet w/the np for bloodwork and to review a folder they give you on being pregnant...blah,blah,blah. very pointless but i went...then usually does an u/s between 7-8 weeks, but since i wasn't sure when i ovulated and my lmp was 7/31 they had me come in. then i will meet with the dr in 3 weeks, which is usually around 10 weeks. what's going on with you this month?

alp-glad your screening went well. we didn't have it done last time but it would be nice to get an extra u/s. i guess the hb is ok then. i never remember having the 2nd trimester energy kick, i could use some now!

Nico - Wow, that is so scary, I'm so glad Timmy is okay!! Luckily for us, Adam and I are both trained in first aid and CPR because we teach fitness classes. That always gives me a little bit of comfort, although there is no guarantee that in an emergency we would do the right thing. In any case, if that ever happens again, which hopefully it won't, try abdominal thrusts just below the sternum.

Alp - Congrats, sounds like everything is going great!

Nico: how scary about the lifesaver! Max and Charlie do have "babies" (dolls) who they are quite fond of, although now that you mention it I'm not sure I've really modeled the nurturing of the babies with them in a way that I probably would have by now with girls. So, that's a good idea there.

So interesting about the gender stuff. Our girls definitely seem to follow suit. They are both excellent with fine motor stuff (omg, Mallory is OBSESSED with coloring...I hear "I culuh" [I color] 15 times a day) and nurturing their baby dolls. But they are definitely more cautious with the gross motor activities. If anyone has any tips for getting them to be more physical, I'd like to hear them.

Nico - So glad Timmy is ok! My BIL is the same way with my nephews and freaking out with their "feminine" interests, and I know my DH would be the same if we had boys. That would bother me too...all the more reason to really let the boys do those things when he's not around! ha!

Jess - That heart rate really sounds about perfect for week 6-7, congrats! Are you waiting until 2nd TM to tell most people?

ALP - So glad the NT scan went well and that your nausea is improving. Are you hoping for boy or girl, or are you neutral?

Brenda - My OB does first US at 9-10 weeks. How are you feeling?

Aya - How are you these days?

allison - tx for asking! Chaos, utter chaos but fun most of the time. Way too much coffee and way too little sleep (also because of me; I am intent on finishing this Insanity thing and that often means getting up after feeding E at 3ish, else they all potentially wake up mid-workout). But we are going to the Berkshires tomorrow and Emmi hates the carseat (opposite of other babies, she wakes UP when you put her in the car and then screams until we arrive or she falls alseep from exhaustion). I will prob be squeezed in the back all the time and have to entertain for 3 hours! But peak foliage this weekend so whatcha gonna do?
So interesting M loves colouring, Bbay J needs more encouragement I think!

Nic - did you know that Lifesavers have a hole in the middle a kid choked on one before they had holes so that hole is why the candy is so named! I feel like I may have rambled this story to you a while ago... so glad T is okay!

sorry I have to rush, my apartment is like the aftermath of a bomb and unified naps are few and far between these days!

My DH would most definitely not be on board with a boy playing with dolls (one of the many, many reasons I'm happy we have girls). He definitely has very gender specefic views. My nephew is 3 and he has a doll (a boy doll that I got him for Christmas per his request and his parents' encouragment). He doesn't by any means play with it all of the time. He loves trucks, is obsessed with trucks, really. But, he does occaisonally want to take care of his "baby". I think it is awesome and very healthy. Fortunately my BIL is not a "typical" guy and doesn't really think anything of such things one way or the other. My very straight BIL loves music (brilliant musician), loves gardening, loves shopping, hates sports... everyone is different. I'm reminded of the Seinfield episode where the reporter thought Jerry was gay and he came insisting he was not followed by, "NOT that there is anything wrong with that"
As for my girls, Hannah loves babies. She loves feeding them, walking them, holding them, etc... Grace plays with dolls too, just not as into it as Hannah. But, they are both way, way adventerous though too!! Sometimes they scare me by the risks they are willing to take. They were doing the jungle gyms on their own by the time they were 18 months old. They really are not overly cautious when it comes to anything physical. In a way it is good and in a way it is bad because it scares me sometimes! I think that maybe we are unknowingly more protective and overly cautious with girls by instinct. And I think that the reason my girls are so NOT cautious is because I could not be too overprotective because I had 2. I had to let go a bit more because there was no way I could hover around 2. Most moms in my playgroups were following their little ones the girls' age up the playscapes while I was letting mine go. They never once had a fall and I knew they were ready. But, most of the other moms were just so sure that theirs weren't. Some of them still follow their 2.5 year olds everywhere on the playscapes. I think the best thing that we can do as moms of girls is to not let them think that they can't do certain things and not to focus on "don't get hurt" or "oohh be careful". Of course those are important things but I definitely think that having grown up in a society where gender roles are prevelent, we just (whether we realize it or not) tend to treat little girls like there are so delicate and they pick up on that. Wow, sorry. That was long winded and I'm not even sure I was able to fully articulate what I am trying to say!!

Aya: that sucks about the car seat! My niece Charlotte was the same way. Although she's more chill about being in the car seat now (at 2.5 years old), they never did get to a point where they could hope that she would sleep in the car, etc., unless they were very very lucky.

Heh, KLC, I'm definitely one of those moms who stalks them up the playstructures at the park! I just get so freaked out! I am letting them explore a bit more, though, now. Since your girls are fairly adventurous, etc., do you have any advice about dealing twins at the park? Now that Charlie's walking too I'm finding it increasingly difficult to go to parks with them when I'm alone, as they really are going in opposite directions most of the time, including heading over to the big kid area or heading right into the path of a swinging kid. I suppose some of that will get better with time.

nico- im so glad timmy is ok! whew!! i would just totally freak out! bella has a sensitive gag reflex and if anything goes down wrong she gags and usually throws up whatever else she just ate! All this talk makes me want to get CPR certified!

alp- yay for a good appt and fading nausea! i still have it probably 25% of the time but i'll take that over 99% any day!

    bebe- congrats on another girl!!

brenda- my ob doesnt do u/s until later 10-12 weeks typically unless there's a problem!

so guys yesterday my stomach was sort of hurting, badly! It all started with my diastasis i think, tho! I feel like its getting worse! If i even think of using my stomach muscles to help me stand or sit up i get the huge protruding bulge down the center of my stomach and its starting to hurt, kind of like ache when it happens! I was at practice at church for our praise team last night! Every time i would sing a strong note or loud note my stomach muscles would just ache and feel as though they're pulling further apart! I finally sat down and sung less/quieter but i felt like i needed to hold my stomach muscles together, as youre suppose to do when you do the diastasis exercises, all the time in order to feel comfortable! i came home and went straight to bed and feel better today but im just worried the diastasis is getting so much worse and i cant do anything about it!
