Girls, please keep my family in your prayers...we have lost our beloved Schatzi (our boxer/rottweiler mix) today.
We thought she just had arthritis, which would have been bad enough...but yesterday Vance and Daniel took her to the vet because her left front paw and leg were swollen. He x-rayed the leg and found that it was eaten up with cancer. He said he was amazed that it had not broken, because the bone was so thin.
He said she was too old for a successful amputation, and even if it worked, the cancer would most likely show up somewhere else. He said medication would only buy her a couple of weeks, and we decided that we didn't want her to suffer.
Vance dug her grave while Daniel was at school, and after I brought Daniel home, he spent some time with her before Vance took her to the vet. I had to go to work (and cried all the way), so Vance was going to be with her at the end. He was going to bury her and plant a Rose of Sharon at her grave.
We are all heartbroken -- you all know how much we loved that dog. We've had her for nine years, since she was a small puppy. Daniel has grown up with her, and he is so sad to lose her.
Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers. This is the first time in 20 years that we haven't had a pet of some kind. The house is going to seem very empty when I go home from work tonight.
Thanks, friends.
Trina

Oh honey, I'm so very sorry!!! I was shocked to read your post and I'm so sad for all of you. I do know how much you have loved your sweet dog for many years, and I can only imagine how hard this has to be. You gave her such a wonderful and loving home and I know she gave back to all of you lots of love and great memories. Now she's can roam pain free and happy without cancer at Rainbow Bridge. You're in my thoughts and I wish I was closer to come bring a big box of tissues and cry with you. If there's anything you need, please let us know. Lots of love to all of you!!!

Oh Trina,
I am so sorry. I understand too well.
We had to put Ginger to sleep on Thursday. She was almost 15 and was blind, deaf and had lost her sense of smell in addition to arthritis and pancreatitis. India was happy Ginger was no longer in pain, but has cried all weekend.
I pray you are comforted.Sivje

Dear Trina,
I just wanted to say how sorry I am about your beloved dog and family member. As you know, I love animals and I know how much it hurts when they pass on. My pets are my best friends. I had a cat that lived to be 18 yrs old when she died. I was heartbroken and it was during a tough time because we were also doing unsuccessful infertility treatments. It was alot to deal with. I have also had a male collie dog name Ladie die on me do to a birth defect. He died when he was only 2 yrs old. It was a horrible thing that the poor doggie had to go though. Right now, I have my faithful and loyal friend Lady the collie. She is also coming to that age. She is 13 yrs old and is slowing down. Makes me sad to see my faithful friend go though this. She has been there and always loyal. She is me and Hubby's first baby and will always be that way. Unfortuatally, I won't be getting anymore dogs until we move into the country. My neigbhors don't like dogs or kids...:-( I am so sick of neighborhoods!
You are in my thoughts and prayers.
Sorry it has taken so long for me to reply. For some reason I have problems getting on the boards anymore.

I am sorry to hear of your loss
Trina,
I just wanted to say sorry to hear of the loss of your beloved pet.
We just found out about 1 week ago that our golden retreiver who will only be 8 this June also has cancer. It all started with a marble size growth on his back paw and it was discovered last week that the cancer is in his lymph nodes as well. He decided no treatment but he seems to be in no pain as of yet, only time will tell. The vets say maybe 2 yrs the most he will be around.
Again, I am so sorry for your loss.Melissa in ND
