Home study referrals for San Diego

Hi everyone,
My husband and I have decided to move forward with domestic adoption. I have been trying for nearly two weeks to get some referrals. I don't want to randomly pick an organization off of the internet to do our home study. I call Catholic Cherities today and they quoted me $3K for the home study. That seems very high to me. Any suggestions?

I sent you a PM, but our homestudy was included in our price through the agency which was a total of $1200 (which you pay installments as you take your courses) of which once the placement occurs you get $400 back (that is not per child either but rather per adoption).

Since the state of CA started charging $3200 for an independent adoption home study most agencies have raised their price to what the counties charge. There are agencies that charge less (or nothing at all) but most of those are placing children from the state dependency system. Not that there is anything wrong with that (three of my four came thru that system) but the process is a little more complicated.

I got one quote so far, and it was in that range.
Was hoping to be able to "shop around," though that doesn't look to really be an option.

We're in SD as well...
