How old are your kids? Why are you considering HSing?
I've always wanted to homeschool my kids but I wasn't sure I could when my oldest was diagnosed with autism at 2 y/o. But, after years of doing private intensive therapy while doing preschool and having a successful time in preschool, we had an AWFUL kindy year. I decided to homeschool after that. I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE homeschooling him. He has grown socially by leaps and bounds b/c I can directly address his specific issues and get through the academics quickly (he is very bright). He is a PERFECT homeschooling kid.
I am considering homeschooling my dd. I really want to but I have some reservations b/c she really likes school a lot and goes to an excellent private Christian school. Decisions decisions.

SOrry im late getting back to this but my kids are in 4th and kinder. They and changing the school and I am not crazy about the changes plus im hearing a lot about bullying. Naturally kids are telling them more than Id like for them to know and this is something we are thinking of doing. Two families from church home school and love it.SO much to think about.

I pulled my twins out of public school last year in 2nd grade. DS was having tics from anxiety and then started getting made fun of. DD begged to homeschool too so I gave in. It's been a good decision for us. We do a co-op once/week to supplement.

I started homeschooling Jeran for Kindergarten last year. We had pulled him out of preschool halfway through his second year because it was disastrous. They knew how to do things only one way, and Jeran is an active and sensitive boy who needed things done a little differently. Most of the staff treated him poorly, and I'm certain the "teacher" who saw him out the door in the afternoon actually hated him. That's what her face said, anyway.
This is Jeran's second year homeschooling and Daphne's first year. Daphne attended public school through third grade. She did great, but after third grade, it became apparent to us that the education of our daughter was the school's last priority. So she came home at the end of the year, too.
Jalen is our youngest, and we throw a little preschool stuff in for him and his cousin as we can. At 4, he isn't quite ready for his letters, but he's getting darn close. My nephew is 3 and he isn't ready at all. But I'm certainly not going to exclude him from the preschool stuff. I think preschool is mostly social stuff, anyway, so I'm glad my nephew is here for my youngest.
Jeran is in a cub scout pack that is comprised entirely of homeschoolers. This is very cool, as we can do cub scout/homeschool field trips during the day, and everyone gets to participate.
We don't get to do as many field trips as I'd like, because it's difficult to haul 5 kids around. Especially when my nephew is only 3, my niece is only 1, and Jeran sometimes requires as much supervision as they do. (Although he's getting lots better) The Seattle Art Museum is currently having a Picasso exhibit, as many Picasso pieces are on tour while their regular museum in France is being renovated. The Seattle Art Museum is the only stop in the United States. I plan on making a special field trip with just Daphne so she can enjoy that to it's fullest extent.
It has been a wonderful decision for all of us, and I'm glad we are homeschooling. it has it's rough patches, of course, but it's all worth it.DawnL

I am homeschooling our oldest dd's. Both are visually impaired. When dd#3 is old enough for kindy..I will homeschool her too. I have always wanted to homeschool. With dd's vision issues I didn't feel that I could. But, I ran across a blind homeschoolers group and there is so much information and curriculum out there that I wasn't aware of. So this is my first year to homeschool.
I love it. I know what they are being taught....and can give them one on one. Not every day is perfect. There are some days that I want to pull my hair out with dd#2. She doesn't have a long attention span so I have to be creative when teaching her.
The flexibility is nice too. For instance, this week..we are doubling up (as much as possible mainly on dd#1's school work) so that we can take 2 full weeks off for Christmas break. We are travelling for Christmas so I will take dd #2's braille letter flash cards with us and we'll make a road game out of it.
