Great Article on Prematurity and Preventing It...

Hi All,

I have 19mos old twins and also twins who succumbed to neonatal death after being born prematurely. I subscribe to Twins Magazine and rec'd my May/June copy yesterday and read an article that I would highly recommend for all mom's pg w/multi's to read.

At the present time, the article is not available on the web (www.twinsmagazine.com click on current issue) but may be in the near future. I believe you can purchase Twins Magazine at places like Borders Books or Barnes and Noble if you are interested.

Some of the highlights from the article discuss the risks of prematurity, extra measures that should be taken by doctors in dealing w/a multiple pg, and also what the biggest risk factors for delivering your multiples preterm are. There is also a great sub-article that discusses the latest research on preventing preterm birth and mentions that 50% of preterm births are caused by undected infection (especially before 30wks).

I think the article would also be of interest to those who have prior preterm birth and that are not pg w/multis.

Just wanted to share....

Thanks for the info Jillie,

I am very interested in reading up about prevention of PTL as its a worry for every mother to be but especially when you are expecting twins or more, and on bed rest or partical bed rest ....the mind does awful things. Did you carry your twins to 37 week? i so hope i can.

G/G twins 24wks 3 days.
GD just diagnosed

Lind,

I carried my second twins to 35wks. Though they are preemies, I can't tell you how thrilled I was to have hit 35wks, especially when I was threatening to deliver at 20wks! Definitely look for a copy of the article...I wish all doctor would read it and treat every patient accordingly!
