Hi,
I am new to this board and am hoping that you guys can help me. last year i had a cerclage placed as precaution (due to prior losses) and was able to successfully gestate & deliver my twin boys -- via c-section -- and i kept my cerclage in place because i didn't have a vaginal delivery. during that last pregnancy, i was on strict bedrest. now i am pregnant again and am worried. i am currently 21wks pregnant with a singleton. my doctors told me that being pregnant with one baby after being pregnant with twins is 'a totally different pregnancy'. my dr tells me that all the precautions of bedrest were because of the twins -- increased weight of two babies instead of one, more uterine irritabilityand over stretching of uterus to accommodate two babies. anyways, i am worried because my boys are 12 months old and VERY active. I can't see myself doing the bedrest thing over again. I am constantly chasing them, bending, stooping down, and most especially carrying them (each weighs 19lbs). I am trying to take it 'easy' but how do i do that with active boys who need me? has anyone had a cerclage and not had bedrest? i am just trying to see if anyone has a similar experience to mine. please help!!! i am due for my monthly ob exam and want them to re-measure my cervical length. thanks in advance for your help! tina

I have never heard of leaving a cerclage in place unless it was an abdominal cerclage, is that what you have?
Yes Twin pregnancies are very different than pregnancies with a singleton for most women. If you are already 21 weeks and not having any problems then you are probably going to do really well the rest of your pregnancy. 18-24 is a big danger zone and if you are going to have cervical changes because of IC, they usually happen during that time. Any later than that they consider it preterm labor. Make sure your Drs monitor you very closely as far as measuring your cervix, watching for preterm labor and any thing that just seems off. Hope you have a very uneventful rest of your pregnancy. Mandy

Hi,
I, too, have never heard of leaving a non-abdominal cerclage in place and had mine removed just prior to my c-section. Multiple pg's are much different than singleton pg's as witnessed by some of the women here at FT who have had premature births in multi pg's and then full term pg's in their singleton pg's. Still, I'd be weary of lifting your twins more than is necessary and also ask your doctor to do some extra monitoring during weeks 18-24...as Mandy indicated, that is the critical time.
