Help..worried about u/s result...

Hi. Last week when I had my u/s- everything looked great! The hb's were good, they were 10mm and 10.5 mm in size and the blood flow was wonderful.

I had another u/s today just a week later and now I am concerned. One twin was now 21.5 mm and the other had only grown to 17.5mm(I am 8w 2d pregnant right now). In addition, they noted that the smaller of the two yolk sacs had only had a 2 day growth instead of the 7 days that it had been since the last u/s...

My RE didn't comfort me too much.. He told me that 1/3 to 1/2 of all twin pregnancies result in 1 of the 2 miscarrying...and when he starts seeing such a big gap in development within a week that is a red flag???
I am so confused. Everything has gone perfect so far, and I really got used to the idea of having twins. The thought of possibly losing one is really scarey for me and my dh.
Has anyone had a similar experience where the twins were very close in size and then one slowed up quite a bit but still made it just fine? I would love any feedback you can give me.
I go back next Fri. for another u/s and he told me to "take it easy over the weekend".-(I traveled this past week and was very active- so taking it easy seems like a great idea!).

Oh by the way, the hb's were very similiar and strong-(the smaller was 164 per min. & the larger one was 174)
PLEASE, PLEASE advise.
Thanks so much.
Andrea

Andrea,

The fact that both of your twins had great heartbeats is excellent news and a good indicator. Yes, vanishing twin syndrome is common, but typically it occurs prior to a h//b.

Also, keep in mind that your smaller baby did grow and that the babies, even at that early gestational age, are capable of moving around in utero. It is very possible that the u/s measurements were not accurate and that your baby grew more than 2 days worth.

Hugs and please update us after your next appt, okay?

Jillie
