    FSH. 11.2 .... devastated...

So today I turned 29 and found out my FSH is 11.2. I kind of suspected it because I took a first response fertility test than indicated I had elevated fsh months ago. Even still I'm quite devestated and haven't stopped crying since. Not throwing a pity party, I know everyone has their own issues on here. I'm just not quite sure what to do next. Everything I read about high FSH pretty much says I have very slim chances of getting pregnant on my own.

I don't have an appointment with the OBGYN until July 2nd so in the mean time I'm just looking for advice.

This is the results of my blood work.

    FSH was 11.2

Testosterone serum was 25. I don't know what this means.

Luteinizing Hormone (LH) was 6.9 - don't know what this means either.

Estradiol was 42.0 - don't know what this means

That was it for hormones. The rest was like protein and calcuim etc. My glucose serum was high at 127. I'm not sure what that means either.

What now? I know I need an AMH test now. What other tests should I ask for? Anything I could do naturally to help? I am an ex smoker. I just quit less than a month ago. Could that be the reason for the high fsh?

    Thanks ladies.

Don't get too discouraged. Things aren't so bleak! My FSH is 12, and for women under the age of 41, this is still within a normal range! And high FSH levels in women under 35 do not necessarily indicate premature ovarian failure. I think that age is the most important factor, and you are still super young! I recently underwent a failed IVF cycle, but even with HORRIBLE FSH/AMH (12/0.5), I still produced 5 eggs, 4 which fertilized, 1 implanted (opted to because of my young age, highly suggested by my RE). Anyway, that cycle failed, but my entire RE team discussed my case at a grand rounds meeting at the university they are affiliated with, and it was unanimous that I would be successful if I kept trying. So don't give up! There's still a TON of hope for you!!!

    Hey brokenoven,

I am so sorry you are feeling down about your results. I would definitely request the AMH test. They are gaining popularity because they are more reliable throughout the cycle and from cycle to cycle. It doesn't fluctuate as the FSH reading could. You can take the AMH test any day during your cycle.

Also, FSH ranges vary from clinic to clinic. One might say you're "abnormal" while another finds your level within range. Push for the AMH!

Keep your chin up. At 29, you still have good odds with IVF. You can cross the DE bridge if you ever come to it.

    Best,

    Kim

Please don't be discourage I was over 35 when I tested my fsh and to my shock it was in the 30 range! I was crying specially bc I had a miscarriage 7 months earlier and I was not expecting this news. This board helped me a lot and gave me tons of hope and encouragement.

I followed a fertility diet, changed things around and added supplement to my daily routine and w/in 2 months my fsh was 6 then 4 and my e2 was in the normal range as well.

I changed RE and had an an amazing doc that does not treat women as number only. He explained to me many factors can increase fsh including stress. So fsh usually fluctuate from one month to the other.

This happened almost nov 2009 and since then got preg 2 times has 2 additional miscarriages and now I am preg in my sec trimester and I am way older than u. So u have hope sweety just have faith and try a fertility diet that can help u lower your fsh.

    update

    Hi ladies

First i want to say thank you so much to everyone who answered and gave support when i first made this thread. Since then i switched obgyn's and started accupuncture. Ive also had more testing done.

The cycle after i got the blood test that revealed the FSH of 11.2 i got more blood work. Everything was fine except my FSH was still elevated to i think about 10.5 on cycle day 3. We also did a follicle study that same day and i had 18 follicles between my two ovaries. We also tested my AMH and that was normal too at 2.9. So my OBGYN and my RE both said i do not have DOR. Neither of them know why my FSH is high if i dont have DOR. I am thinking those numbers mean i may have DOR in the near future or my egg QUALITY is poor? Anyone have some thoughts on this?

We also did an HSG that cycle (this was in july) and discovered i had 2 uterine polyps and they were blocking my fallopian tubes. My doctor said if the dye for the HSG could get through my tubes than so could sperm but the polyps were acting like a natural IUD making my uterus an inhospitable environment for any fertilized egg. So i had surgery to remove them July 31st. At the same time they gave me a lap surgery to check for endometriosis and he found an adhesion on my bladder and then one on my left ovary, making my left fallopian tube stuck to the ovary. They removed these adhesions and there is a risk for ectopic if i were to ovulate from my left side because after they removed the adhesion my fallopian tube ending looked "somewhat clubbed". I went for a second opinion from a specialist and he said it is possible that it looked that way only because it had just been aggravated. I usually ovulate from my right side anyways, but im still very concerned.

Since the surgeries i have ttc for 2 more cycles and was not sucessful. This is cycle day 1 of my 3rd cycle after the surgeries and i will be doing an iui.

Im still super worried about the FSH number and maybe i have crappy eggs. Has anyone had sucess with iui using clomid despite the FSH number?

    Thanks for reading .

    ****M/C & pregs mentioned*********

    Hi brokenoven,
what a journey you've been through recently. Its great news that your AMH was normal and your follicle count was really good. I'm also glad they caught the polyps too. I wanted to let you know that I have high FSH and low AMH. A couple years ago (when I was 30) my FSH was 15.9. After TTC on our own for many months and a couple m/c, I did a couple clomid IUI's and was successful with my second one! Now, 2 years later, we've tried again. This time we mixed Clomid with follistim for the IUI. I am currently 18 weeks preg with triplets.

Please don't loose hope, it can be a very long road, but a high FSH diagnosis does not mean that you won't ever have success, sometimes it may just mean your road to success is longer and harder. The good news is that your dr's don't think you have DOR which is great. Wishing you the best of luck!
