GMG - I absolutely do not think you are rambling - this is an emotional journey - I am so absolutely excited that you have identified your donor. Sounds like a great match. I do hear you on the grieving not your own dna thing - it is hard, but what a mighty gift for you and dh! I am so glad you feel a good match with your donor! Let us know each step of the way. I am considering DE but dh really, really wants to go with my OE. Oy. hard choices.

I have a question about IVF protocols. My RE said if we do another cycle with my own eggs, he would do the same protocol as last time - a long lupron protocol. He said that he could have given me a higher dose of Follistim than he did and gotten more eggs, but that the quality of those eggs would be poorer and that is why he chose a lower dose of Follistim for me and got less, but better quality of eggs. We got onto another tangent (the overall quality of my eggs), but is that theory correct, that if you do a lower dose and get fewer eggs, the quality of those eggs may be better than getting as many eggs as your body can humanly put out in a cycle? Any info on this idea would be greatly appreciated. I plan to bring it up again with my RE when we meet again if I decide to do IVF #2 with my own eggs. Thanks-

GMG - that is so exciting to have a donor lined up. So you won't be doing a split cycle?
JK - I do think there is something to be said for lower doses. My first and this last IVF I was on 450 of FSH and got better quality embryos then the other 3 when I was on 600. Of course there were other factors involved so who knows really what affects the quality the most.Me 38 DH 43

JK - thanks!! You know, the decision was one I think I mentally prepared for long ago and am totally at peace with - probably due to the steep uptick in success odds (that can't hurt). God knows I would have wanted my OE to work, and someday they might - I imagine we'll try again even if we have a child or children via DE. I think I'm just relieved to know that basically, all of our donors are lined up back to back approximately, so if something didn't work w/ the 1st or 2nd one, the 3rd is still very close behind. Having found a donor w/ such an amazing record is pure luck and good timing, so the thought that success could lie in the next couple months is great. Good luck w/ your next cycle!!
Amber - even though she was listed as a split, if there's no one else on the list at the time you can opt for a single cycle (which we're doing). I know the donor has been proven to be a high yield of eggs, but, we want the best chance of success possible, and hopefully frosties for later for sibling projects. It definitely sucks having to pay out of pocket when you have great insurance, and a split would be cheaper, but, this is not the time to be cheap since we can financially swing it. Instead of waiting for an email back on Monday from the coordinator who was on vacation til Mon, I called and spoke to the nurse to make sure I snagged her, so I have been matched for a single cycle even though the website has not been updated to reflect it yet.
