I stumbled across this today.. not sure if has been previously posted but very very interesting.
Breakthrough Fertility Technique may Allow Women to Have Babies Even in Their 50s
Hope the link works.
Hope all is well.. I stop taking my BCP thursday (thursday being last dose) then will be waiting for AF so i can do this clomid challenge test which i'll probably fail (i'm so positive right now lol). Can someone answer me this?? Am I supposed to start back up on BCP when I get my period and i do this test?? or i just stop them completely.
Take care everyone

My guess is that you should stop BCP completely unless they are part of your protocol, as in the suppression part of an IVF protocol. It doesn't sound like that is what you are doing.
Wow, that breakthrough would be an answer to my prayers!

I agree! Would be an answer to all our prayers here but as you know the use of stem cells is very controversial but would cure so many diseases. I'll be keeping an eye out for any trials they will start in regards to that. There is a website you can check for trials
Home - ClinicalTrials.gov and you can do a search for whatever disease you want. How they work I dont exactly know..

Ugh, i can't sleep lately but just wanted to share more hope.
this is a new trial that holds promise for us down the road: Low Ovarian Reserve Clinical Trial: Can Dormant Perimenopausal Ovarian Follicles Become FSH Responsive? [Conditions: Low Ovarian Reserve, Poor Responders to Gonadotropihins Treatment; Interventions: Removal of half an ovary]
this concept was created by a japanese researcher - basically he found a way to 'wake up' the remaining dormant follicles that all perimenopausal women have, but that are just never stimulated. right now this would involve losing a small piece of ovarian tissue, but who cares if we can grow more eggs, right? also, the study is being conducted on women 45+, but hopefully it will one day be available to us.
the reason i think this may catch on is because there are already patents on the procedure - and they mention the use of the procedure for POF: Manipulation of ovarian primordial follicles - Patent Application 20100191040
gonna try to sleep now...sigh

Interesting.. and of course, the FDA here is probably going to balk at this. There is so much more reproductive freedom over in Europe. I can see some ethics issues with this though... in my opinion, I do not think it's right for a 50 or 60 yr old to give birth. That child will likely be left without a parent when they reach adulthood or even before. You dont want women who have empty-nest syndrome to be having babies for that reason. I absolutely agree this technique should be available to any woman at a reasonable child-bearing age, but not over 50. Sorry.

i agree with you...that treatment should be prioritized for women under 40.
but then again, it seems so unfair that a lot of men can have children into their 60s and 70s. they never have to deal with 'FSH', hot flashes, AMH, etc. i wish i were a man.

It is easy to say that treatment should be prioritized for women under 40 when you are under 40. Please remember that many of us have been struggling with infertility for YEARS. Am I less deserving of a child than you are because I have turned the magic age of 40? Please be sensitive.
Me - 41 DH - 46
DH - Unsuccessful vasectomy reversal
IVF#1 Cancelled due to poor response
IVF#2 (with ICSI) 3 embies transferred BFP M/C 8 weeks
IVF#3 Cancelled due to poor response
IVF#4 Cancelled due to poor response
IVF#5 1 egg retrieved - no fertilization
IVF#6 Cancelled - follies stopped growing
AMH 0.4 FSH 16 (highest that I know of)

sorry, i didn't mean it that way at all...of COURSE you are deserving of treatment.
i guess what i meant was that treatment should be prioritized for people like us (with medical reasons for IF) rather than celebrities in their 50s who want to add to their already long list of children or something.

Yes Cassandra and I would think anyone who has no children thats been battling infertility for a while, should be eligible for this treatment. My problem is with women like octomom , or someone who already has a few children and is feeling lonely since her kids are grown, or she remarried a younger guy. Obviously anyone who is childless, or has only one child, and has been trying to get pregnant and is of reasonable age, should be eligible for this treatment.
