    Metformin + High FSH

    Hello all....

I am curious to see if anyone knows any information about Metformin possibly increasing FSH? I started on Metformin last May for non infertility issues and then was dx with POF, high FSH levels in November. I am trying to see if there are any dots to connect here since Drs struggle with knowing the root cause of POF/high FSH.

Also, since my original dx, my FSH has dropped 20 points, but is still too high, has anyone heard anything about using wheatgerm to help decrease FSH levels? Or has anyone heard of any other reasons FSH levels may drop? Better diet, increased exercise, etc?

    Thanks!

Hopeful: Wheatgrass and accupuntcture have helped many of us lower their FSH. Wheatgrass (and prayer) helped restore my period after it stopped for about 4 months and drove my FSH way up.

I hope not because I was just put on metformin and I already had a high fsh number. I was put on it for immune issues. I did call and talk to the nurse at the immune doctors office about wether metformin (because I know they give it to people with PCOS) would decrease the number of eggs I would get. They told me no and that because I was taking it for immune reasons (high PAI-1 levels) that it would give me better quality eggs.

P2R - what form of wheatgrass did you use? I found the wheatgerm capsules and have been taking those the last two weeks. I also found raw wheatgerm at my local Whole Foods store and have been mixing that into my cereal, oatmeal, bread mixes, etc

Also, how did you like acupuncture? I am not too keen on needles, and feel that it would freak me out.

Sdeut - I hope not either but I was just trying to see if anyone else out there perhaps noticed the same tread happen to them after being put on Metformin. I was just trying to recall all the changes of meds, etc within the time frame of the past year before I was dx and that was the one that popped out the most.

You might be able to find out more info on metformin on the PCOS board. They talk about metformin a lot. See if any of them have experienced high fsh after taking metformin for a while.
