RE-Reading HBP and have a question....SPOILER ALERT

I'm about 1/2 way in on my second time around. I can't remember the chapter number, so if someone's not this far, I don't want to ruin it for them....this isn't a real spoiler, but a question, I guess.

Why can Dobby & Kreacher apparate and disapparate inside Hogwarts?

Wasn't it mentioned somewhere?? I don't remember though!! Maybe because they are house elves and not humans and therefor they have the ability to apparate and disapparate to perform a duty??????

Actually, the characters comment on it, but they don't actually mention why they can apparate and disapparate but humans can't. I suspect it has something to do with an enchantment which allows house elves to do certain types of magic within the castle. I'm sure it would be easier for a house elf to apparate into the different rooms to clean than it would be for them to have to travel by foot.

I don't remember if it tells exactly why?!

I know they say how they do everything in secret and nobody ever sees them doing it (i.e. cleaning, serving/preparing meals, etc.).

But good point! Never thought about that.
