something to ponder from GOF

"He said my blood would make him stronger than if he'd used someone else's," Harry told Dumbledore. "He said the protection my--my mother left in me -- he'd have it too. And he was right -- he could touch me without hurting himself, he touched my face."

For a fleeting instant, Harry thought he saw a gleam of something like triumph in Dumbledore's eyes.

What do you make of that???

Doreen - I must admit I also thought it strange that Dumbledore would have a "gleam of triumph" in his eyes. Very weird indeed, unless Harry misinterpreted Dumbledore's body language.
I think that there's much more about Dumbledore that we don't know about. Hopefully we'll learn more about him, and his past, in the next 2 books.

Teri - I don't think McGonagal is Voldemort's mom, cos we know that Tom Riddle grew up in an orphanage after his mother had died. Who knows though? Anything's possible I guess!!

I've been thinking about this too after finishing GoF and I think that Dumbledore touches on this in OoP. At the end, when he is talking to Harry about the prophecy, he says that according to the prophecy, Voldemort has marked Harry as an equal by choosing him over Neville. Voldemort obviously considers Harry a serious threat which is why he felt Harry's blood above any other would make him stronger. But, I think instead, by taking Harry's blood, Voldemort actually makes himself more vulnerable to Harry (like when Harry can see into Voldemort's mind in OoP) and that will likely lead to a way Harry, a young, inexperienced wizard, will be able to defeat Voldemort.

Teri...Tom Riddle is Voldemort's father's name (on the gravestone in GoF) and that is why he changed his name to Voldemort...to avoid association with his muggle father (interestingly enough, Tom Riddle also appears to be the name of Voldemort's half brother who he killed along with his father and step-mother). And, he tells Harry in CoS that his mother died which is why he ended up in an orphanage. I think Rowling has said that Harry and Voldemort are not related, particularly since she's squelched rumors that Harry is the heir/decendent of Salazar Slytherin, which he would be if he was younger than Voldemort, who is actually the heir/decendent of Slytherin.
