Somebody came out of the wand who LOOKED like Harry's father. If he had switched bodies with someone else before Voldemort arrived, then that could explain it. Somebody mentioned the Ultimate Unofficial Guide to Harry Potter in another post; it talks about this in detail.

I may be completely off track, but the appearance of the shadows from the wand doesn't deter me! However, if JKR said specifically that both Harry's parents are dead, then that does!
