Hi,
I was wondering what sperm bank you all chose to use and why?
I think we are going to try to use a sperm bank rather than a known donor for legal reasons.
There are several sperm banks and I was just wondering which one you all decided on and why.
I live east of Atlanta and there is one "local", Xytex. Has anyone used this one before?
Also I thought I remebered seeing in a post (who knows which one lol) that they found a sperm bank that did not require doctors permission, does anyone know which one that is?
Thanks for all of your help. Love this board.

Greetings from NY! My partner and I are using Xytex and out of all the banks we (really my partner) researched, Xytex is the MOST expensive but THE BEST! They have been very informative, resourceful, the bios and pics are awesome and they carry the highest motility count <---super important!

Yes, we've ordered 4 vitals and the total cost was $2937 (which includes shipping!) The donor that we selected is a new donor and has had reported pregnancies. I had my first IUI on 8/19 and I get a pregnancy test on 9/1. (The waiting is horrible! I want to know, but nature needs to take its course.)

We went with XYtex as well and I'm pregnant!
Their staff is really helpful so I liked that. Their selection was VAST, at least for white guys. Maybe not so much if you are looking for a different race or ethnicity.
I'm working with Reproductive Biology Associates in Atlanta for IVF and they gave me a list and kind of suggested XYtex. They also had some helpful comments about other places, which ones I don't really remember. I wish I could tell you which one they said if you use, you're pretty much guaranteeing your kid will have genetic siblings out there in the world.
There is a registry for kids born through sperm donors. You might want to check it out. It might give you information about various banks. Wish I could tell you the site name but I'm sure you can find it.Me: 49 - never pregnant DW: 46 - mother to 16 yo DS and 19 yo DD
04/20/12 RBA (Atlanta) 6 DE - 5 survived thaw and fertilized
07/23/12 transferred 1 shining star blast,
7/24/12 two Grade A blasts froze - two others stopped growing
7/30/12 POAS YES+ Wheee!
Beta 7/27/12 = 2, 8/2 = 104, 8/7 = 710 BFP!

Yes I did notice they have a huge selection.
We are wanting to try at home first. I don't necessarily have infertility issues. I am young but I had a fallopian tube removed when I was 16 so I am sure that effects my chances some what but how much I do not know.
Are there any other sperm banks you all would recommend? I think XYtexs cost might be too much for us. I have heard a couple of couples using bank from california. not sure of the exact name. Something like Califrnia cryobank.

I think XYtex will send it to your home, but only on an order from a physician. I don't know how other places handle this.

Yea I think that is how most if not all do it, through the physicians consent.

We used the sperm bank associated with the hospital where we did IVF. I like the idea of a guy who chose to live in the same town as we do. We did open ID donor so the kid can contact him after she turns 18 if she wants. I got pregnant the first time too. We were happy with the extensive donor profile. It was only 300$ but somewhat limited selection. They had what we wanted otherwise would have gone with a national place.
IVF #1 5/17/12 co-maternity cycle (2 women split cycle)
retrieval 6/6/12 from DW (43): 11 follicles, 9 eggs, 5 mature
using ICSI donor sperm 3 fertilized
6-9/12: transferred (me 38): 3 laser hatched day 3 embryos
1 embryo 8 cells no fragmentation, 2 embryos 4 cells w/ fragmentation
BFP: EDD 2/27/13 with a singleton

Meagan,
I'd suspect having lost a fallopian tube would mean that on half your cycles an insemination won't work because the egg will be coming from the ovary that doesn't have a fallopian tube through which to get the egg to your uterus. Are you planning to do ultrasounds to figure out which side has a developing follicle? They can tell that now by looking at the ultrasound of your ovaries. If the ovary with the follicle is on the side where you lost the tube, then you'd be throwing your money away to inseminate that month. If you don't have insurance, most ultrasound places will give you a self-pay rate that's pretty reasonable (certainly less than the semen for that month's insemination). I think it would be a good investment.
Please forgive me if this information is just obvious already to you.Me: 49 - never pregnant DW: 46 - mother to 16 yo DS and 19 yo DD
