    Round 2 with Gestational Diabetes

Well, ladies, I thought I would be more accepting this time around since I was celebrating what GD did for my weight during the last round. I think since I found out this time at 13 weeks instead of 27 weeks like before, I am sort of feeling ripped off! Especially with the holidays coming up!! Oh well! I have my class tomorrow and I remember feeling less restricted after the class. Especially since I haven't even had the blood sugar monitor so I automatically assume I am headed to glucose disaster!

I hope everyone is feeling good right now! Healthy babies are the goal!

I'm in round two as well. I was doing ok with it until tonight's dinner and I just ATE because I was so hungry and it's Thanksgiving. I had a pretty high reading so it was kind of a 'last fling' for me. Back on the horse tomorrow and up till delivery, no more 'bad days' for me.
It's so hard being so freaking hungry and having to eat small, unsatisfying meals. The only thing that keeps me going is knowing that it's for the baby.

I had to attend 2 dinners and I ate turkey and green beans at both. A dollup of stuffing at one, and my son did pretty much force feed me a bite of pumpkin pie. That was absolutely the best bite of the day!! I didn't test. This MORNING, I thought I would celebrate my discipline by getting a decaf latte and then I THOUGHT the Starbuck's turkey bacon/eggwhite on wheat breakfast sandwich would be the healthiest choice... ummm, 198!!! I haven't had one that high yet! I have to be really careful with my breakfast apparently because I have had some high ones. I was able to eat egg mcmuffins last time and be fine. Apparently, two placentas make it a little worse! I will have to figure out a boring solution for my early mornings. I am fine cooking breakfast on my normal schedule but once a week, on Saturdays, I work at the crack of dawn. Today and Wed, I worked a regular shift from 8 - 5 and I had to grab something (I usually work at 12:30 so I have plenty of prep time normally) and I was trying to find an on the way solution. I don't know what I will do tomorrow.

I bought a diebetes cookbook. I need to start planning. It has been 9 weeks now. I should know what I can eat!

If you have to grab something from the drive through the sausage breakfast burrito is an ok option at 26g of carbs. Two placentas definitely make the GD worse because I had to be more restrictive with my twins that I've had to be this time (although not much).
After T-giving I had a reading of 186 which is the highest I've ever had (including last pregnancy), but I will confess that I had a small slice of pie The holidays are so HARD!!!!

I went out for breakfast today and had a 1/2 of denver omelette and 1 piece of wheat toast and a cup of decaf with real cream and 1 splenda. I probably only had a half a cup. And my after breakfast glucose was 192. Do you think it could be stress? I thought the cream would be less carbs and I really didn't have that much? I found my mom on the floor on Friday, unable to get up (she couldn't get to a phone which is why I went over). My brother and I took her to hospital and she was very angry but they wouldn't release her without 24 hour care. She wanted us to lie for her and we refused. So we got some people in place. It hasn't been the easiest time. I totally didn't test after my fasting test in the morning yesterday, forgot to take my glyburide last night, woke up with a 106, ate a nut bar before my ultrasound this morning (and by the way, the girls look great and right on
target growthwise yeah!) and then breakfast and then 192. My lunch (of 2 beef hotdogs YUCK and a piece of low carb wheat with mustard) only rang in at 102. I just wonder if I should report in? That 192 is reall high for me.

    How are you doing?

Could be stress, but if I had to finger a culprit I'd say it was the slice of wheat toast you ate at breakfast. Could also have been the ham in the omelette because it could have had sugar in it. I think twins definitely makes the GD worse because I can eat a bit more than I could last time. When eating breakfast out I had to be really careful because you never really know what's in restaurant food. I only ever eat out at places where I can look up the nutritional info. I never eat bread now unless I know how many carbs there are per slice. High fiber is also really good because it lowers the glycemic index of the food. I'm doing ok now since I've figured out that i can eat about 30g of carbs per meal and be ok. If I go over about 40g I'm in real trouble.
Things I've sworn off (aside from obvious sugary things): rice, pasta, white bread, corn, potatoes, any kind of sweets, most milk (cheese is ok)

You are so right! I eat wheat toast at home but it is 13 grams of carbs. I need to be more conscious of that! Today, levels definitely look better. I don't eat anything white except an OCCASIONAL swallow of milk when it just seems so good! Oh, that at greek yogurt. I put some splenda and maybe a few berries in it for my bedtime snack. I am starting to make a mental list of what I am eating when the babies are here. I think a sour dough bagette with butter is at the top of my list! But wait till the Christmas cookies make an appearance, I might change that!

I'm totally with you on the list of stuff to eat after delivery After my last pregnancy (c-section) the nurse brought me a whole tray of fruit juice and ginger ale to drink because they needed me to produce more urine before they could take the catheter out. It was like heaven getting to drink all those yummy juices, lol!

Yes, this...and it's only day 1 for me! I just found out, by accident, really, that I now have GD. I passed the 1 hr (though I had food, not the drink) a bit on the higher end, but passing. Dh has a meter for his type 2 and yesterday morning I just had an impulse to test (body telling me, right?). It was my morning fasting- 189! So, I ate like dh yesterday and expected it to be better this morning- I started at 181, and then after a breakfast of just eggs, it was 326. WOWSAS! I was really freaked out and called in. They said that's enough for a diagnosis and if it gets above 400 I'm to go to the ER. If it stays at 300, they will call me in something to start on today. I go in Tues am for the 3 hr (for records), meds, and counseling. I have been put on a strict meat and veggies diet until then. I have all this lovely fruit (oranges!) that I picked up the other night that I can't eat, and a box of chocolate covered cherries calling my name. I think I might have to literally trash the cherries to be safe. I ate fajita meat with onions and peppers for lunch. It was soo much meat, yet I still feel sooo hungry (and whiny, obviously!).

My goodness, Ophelia! It's a good thing you had the impulse to test! While it stinks that you have GD at least you know now and can do something about it.
For me the diet was hardest for the first week or two, then it got easier. My DH and kids ordered a pizza last night for dinner and I didn't even want a slice while a couple of weeks ago I would have had to leave the room to keep from eating some. The good thing about this diet is that there won't be too much baby weight to lose after delivery, so I suppose every cloud has a silver lining.
