Hello Ladies! Fresh in from failing the 3-hour glucose test .. hoping to see if any of you are making your way through your last few months minus lovely carbs and sugars. I've been poking about the forum and it's kinda quiet so maybe that is a good thing and not many of you have to give em upbut otherwise, I'd be really interested to hear what your mainstays have been to keep you going. I have my GD class on Wednesday and I'm sure that will give me some ideas too, but would love some input

Gest. Diabetic too!
I failed the 3 hour test on Sunday, Jan 4th....I am in the hospital on bed rest and I will be here until I have the baby. I will be 27 weeks pregnant on Friday and my baby has little to no fluid around him/her (I have been leaking amniotic fluid since halloween).
The gestational diabetes has been a challenge for me but probably not as difficult since I am limited to the foods I can eat since I am in the hospital. I have had to have 2 shots of insulin already and I have to take this medicine before I go to bed to regulate my blood sugar during the night. Its been really hard not eating as much carbs because that was my life....pasta, big bagels, bread sticks, big bowls of cereal. I think I would do horrible if I was at home. It also sucks that i can't exercise, and I think that is a reason why I have GD.
I don't really have any food ideas...but if you find out any good snacks let me know! Also, how far along are you? Is this your only complication you have had so far in your pregnancy?

child mentioned
So sorry to hear about your bedrest and fluid issues
you and I are a day apart .. I am 27 weeks tomorrow. Hopefully they are tailoring your yummy hospital food to accomodate our lovely new diet .. lucky you aren't at home and I bet it's especially hard since everything you list is a lovely comfort food that you could probably use right now!!
I've been fortunately .. this is it for complications with this pregnancy. My last IVF pregnancy was an IUGR pregnancy caught in the 30 week .. emergency c-section at 31w3d and a 2 lbs little fellow.
How is your little one doing?? Do they have any idea how long they will let you carry?
Take care, gal!!!

my doctor is letting me go as long as I can. I thought for surely at 34 weeks he would want to deliver the baby, but I think if i am infection free and the baby shows no signs of distress...he is just going to let me go. I don't think I will make it full term, just because the risk of infection is so high, but ya never know. I can't believe we are a day apart! On Friday I get another ultrasound to see if my fluid has increased any and also to measure the baby to make sure he/she is growing like a 27 weeker.
Do you know what you are having? Do you have names picked out?
What have your blood sugar levels been? I am convinced that I am having a hard time regulating mine because I can't move around and exercise. I did so good today and then after dinner (which I followed the diet perfectly) my blood sugar was 174...so I had to get 2 units of insulin! I had the same thing for dinner last night and my blood sugar was 119. I don't get it!

Well, I will be cheering you on
it sounds like they are watching you carefully and that you are both in good hands!! Personally, I'm only counting down to 31 weeks since that's all I know
I figure that anything after that is bonus!!!
If I had to guess, they have you IV'd like mad and pumping you full of fluids to try and get your amniotic fluid up? You make sure that you let us know how your U/S goes on Friday!!! Are you going to find out the sex then, or are you waiting?? We are having a girl
not really doing too good on names tho .. we have a middle name, Parish, but not a first name yet.
I am actually having some issues with my blood sugar levels - they are LOW. When I took the 3-hour test, my sugar levels crashed in the last hour from 156 to 37. Every self-test that I have done - except after today's lunch - has been 80 or lower. I constantly feel like crud. I refuse to exercise because I get braxton hicks as soon as I get moving and in my last pregnancy - braxton hicks caused my son's heartrate to decel
Are they planning your meals for you????????? If you are in the hospital it should be easy for them to put diabetic meals together for you.

My meals aren't really planned...I am using the regular hospital food menu but it does tell me how many carbs are in each food item, so that is a bonus.
I am not hooked up to IV's even though I think I should be. I asked about it and they should if I can drink the fluids it is the same thing. But I am not so sure I believe that. I just wonder how much fluids they could pump into me in one day versus how much I can actually drink. I mean I do drink about 2 gallons of water daily.
I actually had my ultrasound yesterday, they changed it on me the last minute. The fluid is still little to none...they can't even measure. The baby is growing like a 27 weeker and had a full bladder. He/she weighs 1 pound 15 ounces. We tried to find out the sex and we keep trying each week, but without the fluid our little baby can't move its legs that much...so it will probably be a surprise!

OI! Well, I guess having the menu helps, but you would think they would have a diabetic meal plan already set up

ooo that's a lot of water .. are they letting you get up to use the bathroom, or are you stuck with a pan or catheter??
Happy to hear that the little one is still making progress!!
I really hope you get a chance to see what it is .. but at this point, I'm sure you would be more happy to just make it as far as you both can!!
TIP FOR THE DAY .. there is a lovely pasta on the market by a company called Dreamfields .. only 5g digestible carbs per serving .. I ate an entire cup of dry (make about 2 cups cooked) penne tonight and stuffed my gut .. tested well under my allowance of 120!!

Yeah I get to use the bathroom...I would hate it if I had to use a bed pan or catheter!
I did go to that site you posted with the fast food and I can't believe how many carbs are in some of the foods I normally eat. I think I easily ate at least 10+ carb servings in each meal!!
So how far along are you? When is your due date?

Hello ladies...I also just recently failed the 3 hr glucola and found out on Jan 15th. I am still trying to get used to things. I was not placed on a strict diet just given a list or what would be okay with GD. The OB nurse couldn't quite figure out why I didn't pass the test since I have only gained 3 lbs during this pregnancy and am not really a pasta, cereal, juice kinda person. But nonetheless...I've got it!!!! I have to stick my finger 4 times a day which has taken some getting used too. Today has been the first day that all 4 of my tests have been low, which is good.
Mama-in-bed: So sorry to hear about the bed rest but luckily you are in the best place possible. How are you dealing with that? Sending best wishes your way! Do you know what you are having??
