Suggested Meal Pattern for GD

Things to remember:

15grams= 1 carb exchange

1hr testing after meals BS = 140

2hr testing after meals BS= 120

FSB= Below 90 or 95

--------

Meats=protien ( pair these up with carbs and you will have an easier time controlling the carb/sugar break down) Protien slows the carb breakdown)

--------------

1. Test FBS ( Fasting Blood Sugar )

--

2. Breakfast

- 1 starch/bread ( carb )

1 meat (protien)

1 milk ( usually 8oz, as this counts as a carb also )

--

test 1hr or 2hrs after meal ( depends on what your Dr. reccomends )

--

3. After breakfast snack

- 1 starch/bread

1 milk

--

4. Lunch

- 2 meat (protien)

2 starch/bread

1 vegetable

1 fruit

1 milk

1 fat

--

test 1hr or 2hrs after meal

-

5. After Lunch snack

- 1 fruit

1 milk

--

6. Dinner

- 3 starch

3 meat

2 vegetable

1 fruit

1 milk

--

test 1hr or 2hrs after meal

-

7. After Dinner/before bed snack

Here's what my plan was (pretty similar except they didn't dictate what comprised the carb limit):

Fasting blood sugar 70-95
Two hours after breakfast, lunch and dinner 70-120

Breakfast: 30 grams of carbs
Snack after breakfast: 15-30 grams of carbs
Lunch: 45-60 grams of carbs
Snack after lunch: 15-30 grams of carbs
Dinner: 45-60 grams of carbs
Snack after dinner 15-30 grams of carbs

Thank you so much for this info. It's REALLY helpful!
My diabetic counselor was busy and distracted the day I met with her, so I got very little information (mostly how to test my sugar).
I'm going to print this out and hang it on my fridge!

Congratulations on the birth of the twins!

May I add, if you can squeeze in a 20 min walk after each meal, it will do wonders for your sugar.
