MTHFR C677 hetero - which meds?

Hi,

I read a lot of your discussions already but I'm still a bit confused....maybe you can help:
I'm 33 and 15w pg after our 4th IVF. I never m/c.
After IVF #2 was negativ, clotting issues were tested and they found heterozygous MTHFR C677T and high Lipoprotein A. I was told to take baby aspirin during the next IVF attempts and the RE prescribed 5mg of folic acid (not because of MTHFR because heterozygous doesn't matter but because he gives that to all his patients until week 12).
Now my OB says to continue baby aspirin because of the Lipoprotein A and to stop the 5mg of folic acid and take normal pre natal vitmins because heterozygous MTHFR doesn't matter at all. I don't feel too comfortable and tend to continue 5mg of folic acid.

What would you do?
Thanks
Evi

Thanks christina,

I think that's what I'll do: continue 5mg of folic acid. Won't do harm. Are you on baby aspirin also (for hetero c we don't need heparin, don't we?)?

Evi

Evi,

I am on 2.2 mg of of folic acid (I am taking 1 Metanx daily) and 1mg from my prenatals. I am also on baby aspirin, I think I will continue it until 36 weeks. I was on Lovenox until 9.5 weeks but we stopped it becuase of an SCH they saw on the ultrasound. I am not sure if I was on Lovenox because of the MTHFR. In the tests they run they found 3 more mutated genes (PAI-1,HPA and Fibrinogen) so I don't know for which gene I took it.

Hope this helps,
If you have any more questions please write!
Christina
