A question about homocysteine levels

Hope someone can answer this. I was recently diagnosed with MTHFR (I have a copy of both genes) and was prescribed baby aspirin and folgard. It was my regular OB that tested me for this. I just spoke to my RE and he said that he doesn't think that the MTHFR caused my pregnancy losses (I've had 4) because my homocysteine level was only 3.6. He said the only time this gene causes miscarraiges is when it causes your homocysteine level to be elevated. Is this true?

Homocysteine levels fluctuate all the time, specially during pregnancy. There is a strong posibility that your numbers were elevated at the time of pregnancy so I would not rule it out. Your number is great at the present time, but it should be tested regularly. Either way, you should stay on Folgard and BA as this will keep your homocysteine levels low and hopefully help you carry a pregnancy to term. Good luck to you.
