Impt Question on MTHFR

Hi Everyone - I have been recently diagnosed with hetero cmpd MTHFR. My husband tested pos for the A copy. Both of us have normal homocysteine levels. I have an 18 mo old son who was born premature at 27 wks/5 days. I also have an extensive family history of my mom/aunts/cousins who have had preemies/mc's and lost babies.

We have an appt tomorrow with my high risk OB to discuss our options for child #2. I know briefly via his nurse over the phone that he will want me to take 4 mg of folic acid. When I questioned her about Folgard (which I found out through reading the extensive threads on this web site), they had never heard of it. Should this be concerning? I am also going to discuss the other things I read on here with him, i.e. baby aspirin and lovenox.

Does anyone have any thoughts also does anyone know the benefits of these treatments even if my homocysteine is normal?

Thanks in advance for any information!!!

it is a must that you take 2 folgard 2.2 mg and 1 baby aspirin daily for the rest of your life!!!!!!

When you are TTC you should start lovenox injection starting at either CD6 or as soon as you get a positive pregnancy test and continue lovenox till 6 weeks after the baby is born.

I would also suggest you have your child tested because he has this because you and your husband have it. same with anymore children you have.

good luck!

this was the only combo that worked for me see my siggy I had 2 m/c before I found out I had MTHFR I have 2 copies of the C677T
