Should my son be tested for MTHFR?

I am homozygous for C677 mutation. I gave birth to a healthy baby boy in 2006 after lovenox, predisone and Folgard and much prayer.

I'm wondering now if i need to have him tested for MTHFR. I mentioned it to our ped, and he said he had never heard of it and wouldn't know what to test for?? That scares me a bit.

Does anyone know if he is positive for the mutation what should i be doing different for him as a child? Does he need the same supplements? Is there anything i should specifically be concerned about? Also, does anyone know what i should ask ped to order to determine if he even has the mutation?

Thanks in advance

I'm hetero a and c mthfr.
I had my son tested as I was told dental treatment for someone with this type of mutation needs to be different in terms of no nitrous oxide.
Pediatricians know nothing about this condition, and hematologists also typically know next to nothing.
I've seen both a pediatric hematologist and an adult one, (the former, a leader in his field) and believe it or not, neither knew much.
It's pathetic.
I'd suggest you test in a private lab so it won't affect your child's health insurance.
Unfortunately, I can't tell you much more.
Good luck.
