Mthfr Help!
If I am compound hetero for MTHFR and my last son was stillborn due to a clotted placenta and he was borderline IUGR (both obviously related to blood clotting), then shouldn't I be on at LEAST a baby aspirin and extra folic acid in my next pregnancy if not lovenox? I mean, with my history?
I'm having a hard time with my peri. I posted my full story at this link. If anyone has any help or advice, I welcome it. I'm trying to stay calm, but I'm very upset and scared. Warning...pg mentioned: http://www3.fertilethoughts.com/foru...d.php?t=569276

Hi Gerberdaisy,
Yes! If you have compound hetero MTHFR, then you should be on a baby aspirin, extra folic acid, and heparin or lovenox through 6 weeks post-pardum. Also, you should be on the baby aspirin and extra folic acid (plus b-vitamins) even when you are not pregnant. I just read your history on your other post; I'm SO sorry to hear about Jack! That's absolutely unbelievable that your Dr would not prescribe an anti-coagulant. You can convince your PCP to write the prescription, or write a referral to a more qualified high risk Dr of maternal fetal medicine, or just go outside your insurance if you must. I'm in VA but I've been seeing a Dr in NY, outside my insurance network, so it's only partially covered, but he's who I really need to see for my other issues. It's pretty scary when you realize your Dr at home doesn't have the answers, but you'll get through this! Good luck! Raven (I have compound hetero MTHFR as well )

Thanks Raven! I don't know if you read my full story on the other thread, but I just met with my Primary Care Physician (PCP) today to get a pre-certification to go see a different peri in a big city. I am on baby aspirin and folgard now (folgard through my regular doc/PCP) and I will push for the lovenox from this new peri at my appt on 3/3. My PCP totally agreed with me. This is my 5th pregnancy (no LC) and I had a full term stillbirth due to 40% clotted placenta last July. I simply have to be proactive and do SOMETHING to help this one. I hope this new peri will agree to the lovenox. |

Thanks Raven! Some women in the yahoo immunology group gave me the number of a doctor to call to do a phone consult and get the prescription for lovenox called in. It is Dr. Kwak, I believe. They had already left for the day, so I left a VM for the nurse and assume they will call me back Monday. I honestly can't believe I did it, but the women really urged me to do so immediately. So we'll see what happens....

Well, Dr. Kwak didn't call in the lovenox. Instead she wanted me to fly to see her asap. But I can't due to insurance issues. I don't know what to do. I guess I will keep my appt with the new peri on Monday and hope they will help me.
This is not fair, I hate this so much.

Hi Gerberdaisy,
That's too bad that Kwak wouldn't call in the Lovenox without seeing you in person. A good way to prepare for Monday is to have your current Drs office copy your entire file for your own use. It can take a few days to get those copies made, so the sooner the better. It's a big help to have all of your information ready and transportable to share with this peri or other Drs. If the new peri won't help on Monday, it's still possible to go outside of your insurance and/or file an appeal to your insurance company afterward (should you have to go see Dr Kwak). Good luck!!!
