Karyotype question (m/c mentioned)

Hi,

Just got the call from RE office with the karyotype results from my last d&c.
69XXY
I know it means tryploidy (spell?) entire extra chromosome set and I know that it may be due to the fact of double fertilization (when 2 sperm fertilized one egg). I am curious should dh and I have karyotype testing done?? My RE seems to be 'unconcerned'. And I simply do not know, this was our first ever pregnancy.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

My 1st ivf cycle we had 5 eggs double fertilize out of the 17 retrieved. My 2nd ivf cycle we did ICSI to prevent this from happening. Ended up w/ a bfp but lost it at 7wks4days. We did genetic testing on the fetus and it came back normal. Did testing on DH and I - NORMAL. It is a mystery. It wouldn't hurt to suggest having the karyotype testing. It was a ton of bloodwork for me but not as much for DH. Hope everything works out for you. Sometimes w/ miscarriage unfortunately has nothing to do with our own genetics...just something not right w/ the embryo. Best of luck to you and sorry for your loss.

Thanks Jen. From what I read online triploidy happens most of the time due to dispermy (double fert) and some time due to diploid (spell?) sperm - sperm that have double chromosome. Now my dh has bad morphology... so I am thinking could that means his sperm is diploid ??? I am not sure there are test for those.

I'm sure your RE will want to do additional testing before your next cycle. Do you think doing ICSI would help you? It would at least take care of the eggs allowing more than one sperm in.....they can also do pgd but I haven't heard very good things about pgd. We were given the option of doing pgd this last cycle but opted not to do it. Best of luck to you and again I am sorry for your loss Marina.
