questions re lexapro----some tmi questions

I was on zoloft before I got pg. Dr took me off at first. I complained it caused me to have a huge difficulty reaching orgaisms, if able to get one at all. This was why I wanted to try a different one. The depression was getting bad by my 3rd trimester and did not want to be out of control weepy any more or out of control post partum depression and to be prepared and in my system by birth time. She said it was very safe and would give it to her own sister while pg. NOW I'm hearing you should NOT be on it in the last trimester and it causes a lot of dizziness and IS CAUSING ME NOT TO HAVE AN ORGAISM LIKE SHE SAID IT WOULD NOT DO!! I asked about wellbutrin, and she recomended lexipro over that. my friend had said when she was on wellbutrin that it did not cause orgaism disfunction like her other antidepressants had. Im not sure what to do. I'm a newleywed, and in a great relationship for the first time and don't want to deal with this issue. any inputs???? thank you!!!!!

I have been on Lexapro for my entire pregnancy which has been ok with my RE, OB and Peri.

As far as the other issue, Wellbutrin is supposed to be better as far as orgasm issues (I have been on that in the past) but the Lexapro is supposed to be better in pregnancy.

I am on Wellbutrin and added Zoloft about 2 months later. The Wellbutrin had no sexual side effects whatsoever. I agree about the orgasm issues with Zoloft. I started experiencing issue immediately. The issue for me is that the combo of Wellbutrin and Zoloft has had a very positive effect on my depression and OCD.

I loved how Lexapro helped w/ depression when I was on it (wasn't preggo though) but it completely WIPED out my sex drive all together and I absolutely couldn't reach orgasm by any means.... it was horrible made me quit taking it. Also several of my friends (and DH) also experienced similar sexual side effects from lexapro. Celexa is the same thing but worse. (they are very similar makeup) Dr. wanted to add in wellbutrin to the lexapro but I didn't want to take 2 meds so tried some others instead and had other bad side effects from wellbutrin a couple of years prior when using it to quit smoking.

I seem to have the best luck with prozac in all honesty, and no sexual side effects for me.

Thank you all for your honest inputs! I quit taking the lexapro last week. waiting for it all to get out of my system. I'm not as tired or dizzy. I want to find somthing to take that is safe for pg and breast feeding and not wipe out my libido or orgaisms. I was told all the serotonin uptakes do this. I wonder if any natural stuff works? st johns wort etc. THe aggitation and low patience level is back, though. I hate feeling this way.

NO ST.JOHN in preg!!!! Honestly I haven't had problems with Prozac (which is preg approved and highly studied) w/ that and it is a seritonin uptake too. Sometimes you just have to see what works for your personal chemistry.

I don't know about Wellbutrin and pg, but the only side effect I felt was loss of appetite. It had no effect on my sex drive.

Antidepressants can cause severe irritability in the newborn and breastfed baby. My 9 year old son cried for the first 12 months (about 40 % of the day) of his life. I found research in the last 5 years that shows that antidepressants in mom can cause that reaction. Since that time I have seen several patients who have newborns with the same complaint and after getting off antidepressants (with their MDs help) the baby is fine. Any med that mom takes the baby gets too, so it is something to consider.

I was on anti dep's with both pg's and after for a time. My son was never a fussy baby. My daughter was a little more fussy but now that she is 5 years old I see it was just her personality type. She likes a lot of attention. Both babies were breastfed.
