Placenta Previa & Abruptia Placenta mentioned

So, I spotted red at 1:30am this morning, so this morning when the doctors opened they sent me to the hospital to get an u/s. the results came back that I have placenta previa and abruptio placenta.so my ob told me to stay bed rest and that i need constant monitoring. to add to this, i had an apt with a different ob today that i had to cancel (i dont really feel comfortable with the ob that i have, but loved how he took control of everything today), the doctor that i canceled with called me to find out what happened, she works in the hospital, so she pulled my file and says that she disagrees. she thinks its too soon to develop placenta previa and that my placenta may be overlapping my cervix, but its not big enough to cover it completely. she also thinks that i need to start seeing a paranatologist. Im confused! I guess
I need to go in for a second opinion. Does anyone know about any of this stuff?

I would defintely go see the perinatologist. They specialize in pg problems. They will know for sure if you have something to worry about. I think that does seem kind of early to diagnose previa. At that early stage the uterus is still pretty small so the placenta as the uterus grows could pull up to the top (that is what they told me - I was diagnosed in my first pg with a low lying placenta at around 12 weeks) Mine ended up moving up but was still pretty low. Go see the good dr. They will monitor you well and you will be fine. I also had a placenta abruption at 27 weeks. I had tons of bright red blood gushing out. My placenta has started to pull away from the uterus. Mine was minor even though there was lots of blood. Mine clotted and healed itself. I just had to take it easy the rest of my pg cause of it.

yes i agree with tina. it's still kind of early to label you with placenta previa. i was under the impression that the placenta naturally moves up on it's on toward the end of the first tri/beginning of the second tri.

i would definitely go to the peri. they are specialty docs and will give you lots of peace of mind. let us know how it goes. good luck!

I started spotting last wknd (14w3d) and went to emergency.
They checked me out and couldn't find anything. On Monday I went to have an u/s to see if anything was wrong with the baby and they still couldn't find anything wrong or the cause of the spotting.

I did ask if I tore something or if something happened w/ the placenta and I was told it was too early to have those problems and that some woman just spot or bleed during pg and have a healthy baby.
