My friend was just telling me how hers went. She said it was a piece of cake. She didn't feel a thing. When they checked the amnio - they said her baby was so ready it could go to college by now . Hope it is the same for you

i didn't have any amnio's personally, but i know many who have and they've all said they were expecting it to be much worse than it was. they said it was a fairly quick and easy procedure.

good luck!!

I had an amnio a few months ago - it was not nearly as bad as I expected. It was not completely pain-free either though (those lying males!). With mine, they had to take an extra vial of fluid because there was blood in one of them - so the Dr. said that caused it to be more uncomfortable for me. It didn't take long - that's for sure.

Good luck! Let us know how it goes.

I had my amnio at 37 weeks to check for lung maturity too! It really was no big deal - no worse than a blood test. And their lungs were great so we delivered the next day. Good luck to you!

I've had one at 19 wks. It just hurt a bit when the needle went in, but not awful. Having an HSG test is way worse! (In case you've had one of those!). It only lasts less than 5 minutes. You will be fine!

I also had a 37 week lung maturity amnio with my last pregnancy...I barely felt a thing! In fact I feel more when they draw blood from my arm than I did when they did the amnio, since there are fewer nerve endings in your abdomen than your arm. I can't remember if they numbed at all, but I don't think so, since it's really not necessary. Again, fewer pain receptors/nerve endings in your skin in your abdomen area. It's no big deal at all!

I had an amnio done with my 1st ds. It really wasn't that bad. It's not completely painless, no shot is. But, it's not any worse than a regular shot either. In fact, after it was over, I told my dh that getting a tetanus shot was much worse than this. The dr. said "Don't compare me to tetanus shots! Those things hurt!" laughing the whole time. They didn't numb the area, there really was no need to.

I agree with Kylie, the HSG was a billion times worse!!! Try to relax, it won't be bad at all. Hopefully you'll be told everything is ready to go & you'll be a mommy shortly thereafter!

Good luck!
