    Drink! Drink! Drink!!!!!

Hi all. I wanted to let you know of a scary experience I had last week in the hopes that someone else may be able to avoid it.

I've been battling a virus (cold type) off & on for a few weeks now. I thought I had been doing a good job with taking care of myself. I'm 28 weeks as of today. Last Wed, I was at work & actually feeling pretty good. I get into work about an hour before the rest of my coworkers. I stood up to guide something through a printer & all of the sudden I was hot & clammy, the room started to swirl & it was like the lights were on dim. I sat down right away, got a little relief & then it got worse. I called my mom to come get me because I didn't want to drive home. She works about 2 blocks away. A few minutes later, I heard one of my coworkers unlock her adjoining office. I stood up to let her know I wasn't feeling good. As she unlocked the adjoining door, I hit the floor. I didn't lose consciousness, but I came close. I couldn't even sit up without the room going black. I work for a small local govt, so many of my coworkers are police officers. They came running upstairs to check on me at my other coworkers request. They took one look at me (I was apparently stark white & green at the same time!) & called for an ambulance. To make an even longer story short, I was suffering from vertigo & low blood pressure brought on by exhaustion, stress & dehydration. My blood pressure dropped 20 points when I tried to sit up.

Fortunately, the baby & I are both fine. I now have an anti-dizzy medication I have to keep with me. I have to drink constantly & rest a lot. Simple things make me very tired. Please, please, please be sure to keep yourselves well hydrated! Even if you think you are (I thought I was) drink more! I know this doesn't happen to everyone, but it was very scary & easily avoidable! Sorry for the long post!

I had several bouts of dizziness when I was first pregnant. I thought I was going to pass out as I was feeding DS fish-LOL! Then another time I was getting out the shower and had to sit down. I think that's over for now. Thanks for the reminder to hydrate ~ probably a good thing to do anyways!

You are SO right! Here's a thread I started on the May due date board yesterday about this exact thing...a L&D episode I had from dehydration due to a bad stomach virus/reflux vomiting combo:

    Thanks all.

LeslieT - sorry to hear about your experience!! With my 1st ds, I had a stomach bug that required iv fluids too, but I never started contractions. This time I had some cramping that they were watching closely. I had 2 bags of fluid too.

Hopefully you're little one will stay put for a few more weeks! My sister had problems with preterm labor with my nephew. He was born at exactly 36 weeks. He was a peanut, but otherwise perfectly healthy & spent no time in the NICU. He was actually ready to go home before my sister was! He's a big, healthy kid now. Today is his 5th birthday!

Dizziness is already normal in pg anyway, but this is something entirely different. I'm so sorry you had the experience, how scary.

Great advice, I sometimes get so busy at my desk I forget to drink for hours. So, I'm filling a tumbler right now!!!

    Thanks for sharing.

    Thanks for the reminder!!!

I actually had to be taken to L&D last month for dehydration. Only I didn't know it. I was having contractions 2-3min. apart very consistently and the nurse said I was badly dehydrated.

After that I drank constantly. But, lately I've slacked off.

Thanks again for reminding me that I need to drink drink and drink some more!!!

By the way, sooooo glad you and the baby are both doing fine.
