I'm 26wks 5 days and the Dr. measured my belly today as 25wks. The baby, however, is in the 80th percentile for weight (2 lbs 4oz). A lot of people comment on how small I look - - I am small in general, have gained 16 lbs and now weight 134. Does anyone think it is significant that my belly is a week and a half behind? Thankfully, the baby is a good size. Does anyone know how to do this measurement at home so I can try to stay on top of my growth? (The dr. did it quickly w/a tape and I wasn't sure where so started the tape and stopped it.)
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Cynthia

Hi
Just to let you know that I am nearly 33w and dont look that much PG. I am really tall though. I am always concerned that my tummy looks quite small. However my u/s always has the baby measuring on target or a few days ahead. I asked my doc when he measured my fundus height and he did say that its not a complete accurate way of measuring. Some people carry wider than higher. My fundus height is always a week behind. Hope this helps. renee

Thanks for the reassurance - I appreciate it! Pregnancy is a stressful time - especially when you've gone through a lot to get here! Someone on another board said the same thing you did - so we should make it a pact that we'll try not to worry!!!(Easier said than done!)
Good luck w/your last few weeks of pregnancy! Cynthia

Cynthia,
TRY not to worry! I carried both of my girls very small. I always measured about 1-2 weeks behind. I'm a small person & don't have big babies, so that contributed to it too. I used to work in an OB office & here's the "rule" that they follow when measuring your fundal height. You should measure within 2, either way, of however many weeks you are pregnant. So, if you're 27w, you should measure any where between 25 & 29w. Don't worry, things should be just fine. If you drop off to more than 2w behind, they may order an u/s to check your amniotic fluid level to make sure it's not too low. (that happened to me during my last pregnancy & things turned out fine) Good luck & enjoy your pregnancy!! The rest of it will go by super fast!!! Karen Alexis- 4 Isabella- 1 |
