Super Scared, Need Advice!!
Ok I dont know if I can explain this right, or even in a way that you all could even understand me. But I think something is wrong. I was sitting here watching TV with my Dh and all of a sudden I got a super strange feeling. My heart started racing, my face felt so hot it would melt, I felt like (sorry TMI) I would have diarrhea my head felt like it would blow up and I got really dizzy. My Dh looked at me and asked me if I was ok. I told him I didnt feel right and he said that my face was bright red. I told him to run and get my blood pressure cuff, I only have it from when I went to school to be a dental assistant, and I know how to use it but not what to do with the information. I tried to check my own blood pressure but I couldnt do it with my heart racing so fast and I couldnt hear my heart was beating so loudly in my brain. And then as fast as it came on it stopped. I immediatly cooled down, my heart slowed to a normal rate, my head no longer felt full or like it would explode. I felt almost normal. Now I am terrified. What the hell was that? I wasnt even moving why would my body freak out like that? I do have a heart murmur and some times when it acts up my heart can beat pretty fast, but I didnt feel that this time, and I have never felt like that before. Its 10:45 now, I dont want to hang around the ER and tell them that I DID feel something wierd. But what do I do? Was that my blood pressure, an anxiety attack, heart attack at 25, WHAT? If anyone has ever felt this before I would really appreciate your input. I am super scared.
Tammie

Tammie, It sounds to me like an anxiety/panic attack. I've had several of these, had pretty much the same feelings that you described, and ended up in the ER each time thinking I was having a heart attack at age 22! But, knowing that you're pregnant, I would definitely talk to your OB and discuss with him/her the way you felt. Good luck! Brooklynne |

I too have had a couple of episodes exactly what you are describing but just since being pregnant. My stomach sinks, I feel sick, everything is distorted and my heart races so bad. I talked with my OB about it and she said that it sounds like panic attacks and anxiety which are very common during pregnancy. She says sometimes when we get a surge of one hormone it can cause our body to do weird things. She said that as long as it is not interupting me daily life and it stops within a few minutes not to worry.
Check with your doc and see what they say! Good Luck Christa |

I also think it sounds like a panic attack - sounds like what happens to me when I have them, especially the sudden rise in body temperature. But definitely describe it to your doc and she what s/he says.
Hope all is well Jennifer |

It does sound like it can be a panic attack. But not to scare you let me tell you what is going on with me right now.
I am 24 weeks pregnant. Just about four weeks ago I was at work. The same thing happened to me. I was just standing there and it came on. I literally could see my heart beating outside of my shirt. Luckily i was standing by someone and she grabbed a hold of me just as I was feeling like I was passing out. Well, they called the paramedics because i was at work and by the time they got there everything was normal. EVEN my blood pressure. I went home for the day to rest. Well, three days later it happened again at home while I was ALONE with my two year old dd. I was just sitting in a chair doing nothing. This time it would NOT stop. I freaked out and like a crazy person we drove to the emergency room. My blood pressure was 140/130 and my heart rate was 217!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They called dh and a lady came and sat with dd and put in an IV, did an ekg, and they were able to catch my heart rate going this fast on the ekg. Just as they were about to give me some meds for this it went down to 123beats. This lasted an HOUR and half before it went down though. I seen the cardiologist the next day and he did an echo and looked at the ekg they sent over and diagnosed me with Supraventricular Tachardia. I did not have this issue before pregnancy. I have always had a murmur and a SLOW heart beat but not this.. SO he put me on digoxin and I am taking it every day now. This is dangerous for me and the baby not being treated. I am NOT saying this to scare you by NO means. I just want you to keep in mind that while it can definatly be anxiety, you need to mention it to your doctor and watch if it happens again. If you would like you can pm me and I can give you some suggestions to slow your heart rate down if it starts again. They are called vagal maneuvers and the ER doctor told me to try them as well as my cardiologist. Hopefully with the digoxin I wont have to worry about it happening again. ALthough I have since i started taking it started to feel my heart do it again but only for a second. Pm me if you would like even to just talk.. |

Sorry you had to go through that, Tammie!
I agree with the others, that most likely it was anxiety that compounded even when the scary feelings started. Also, remember how much extra blood your body is producing and having to pump through your veins right now. My OB told me that this will result in occasional episodes of rapidly pounding heartrates. I hope it's maybe what it was at the onset, and nothing more serious! Please DO call your OB/Peri though, and tell them about it, and have a check-up. No sense in taking chances, or wrecking your peace of mind further! Let us know what happens? ![]() Tanja

I had something similar happen (but I was not pg). I was on the BC patch. I went to teh hospital, and they caught it happening on an EKG also. MY BP and HR would jump up HIGH and then, would go LOW. They diagnosed me with aortic spasms, and took me off of the patch. I was better after that. SO, maybe it is from hormones?
I ALSO had those symptoms during pregnancy when my BP started spiking. That prompted bed rest for the rest of pregnancy. So, two diffesrent scenarios for same symptoms. As the others said, the symptoms also are consistant with anxiety attacks. I am not saying that any of this is what you have...but you sure do need to get yourself and the baby(s) checked out. (Sorry, I don't know how many you are having). Let us knwo what the OB says. Hugs, Heather

I am goign to ditto what everyone else said about it being panic related...My first thought before reading everyone else's post was that it was a panic attack. I've had them before and I swear they are brought on by hormones..
I'd call your OB and mention it tho... |

Thank you all for replying I really appreciate it. I called my Cardiologist's office (I see him for my heart murmur) and he said that he does not think it was an anxiety attack only because of the duration of it. It only lasted about a min and a half to two minutes. Very fast. I made an appointment with him for Thursday. My Ob's office didnt seem very concerned about it, but did tell me to mention it to my Peri when I see him on the 23rd. Im sure the babies (triplets Heather) are fine. I also think that its way to early for pre-eclampsia at only 14 weeks. It hasnt happened again since but my MIL brought over her home blood pressure moniter so I can check my blood pressure really easily any time I like. Its been very good so far. So I will just chalk it up to a wierdness for now, unless I have it happen again.
Thank you all so much for answering my cry for help, I have never freaked out about something like that. ![]() Tammie |
