Pain below the right breast

I am 32 weeks pregnant with my third pregnancy. I have never felt this pain before. It is in the upper part of my belly, right below the right breast. It gets worse as the day goes on...and at times can be excrutiating.

I had an OB visit yesterday and mentioned feeling more pain than my last pg and he mentioned that with each pregnancy you tend to feel more pain...or feel the uncomfortable feelings sooner than the last pg.

I never got to that uncomfortable stage with my last pg. My first pg ended at 20 weeks. So this is new to me.

Any idea what the pain could be? When I spoke to my OB, I couldn't really "localize" the pain. I just knew I was hurting....back, braxton hicks, etc. But last night, I really noticed most of my pain is coming from that one spot...right below my right breast.

Thanks!

Thanks for your response. Gallstones do run in the family, both my father and sister have had their gall bladder removed.

I am going to call my doctor tomorrow and tell him where specifically the pain is and see what he can tell me.

This feels like more than pregnancy discomfort....it is actual pain.

I had a pain that sounds similar in my pg with my dd. I had to go for an u/s to rule out gallstones (which it wasn't). We never did find out what it was. I think it was just a pulled muscle or something from the way I slept or something. I would definitely rule out gall bladder troubles, though...

I have that under my left breast. Early in my pg I pulled a muscle there twice and now it is a constant and the dr told me I have possibly torn/pulled a ligament and it can possibly take days, weeks or months to heal.

Also I have heard that your rib cage moves up 2 inches and that the chest bones/ribs separate a bit due to the loosening of the joints. Not sure if I helped or not but thought I would share.

Michelle,

I think that is what my doctor was explaining to me.

I took some tylenol earlier and took a long, warm bath, and it feels a little better right now.

I'm about to go to bed and see how it is in the morning.

I probably really need to stop lifting my two year old ds so much!!!

Amber,

Sorry, I missed your post. I bet it is a pulled muscle. Like I said to Michelle, I bet I am lifting my ds too much. He is two and only about 25 pounds, but he can get heavy!!!

I was just diagnosed with pre-eclampsia and they asked me if I was having pain under my right breast...I WAS, but thought it was just a foot up there under my ribs all the time.

She said it was my liver.

I'm on bedrest now for the rest of my pg, and they told me to watch for that pain. So it's definitely not something to take lightly...and definitely tell your doctor.

Laura,

Did you have any other signs of pre-eclampsia?

My b/p is always fine (although when I went into labor with my last d/s it was high until about 6 weeks after delivery). I'm not swelling, well, not any more than normal at 32 weeks!

The pain seems to be okay in the morning, but then gets progressively worse as the day goes on. By the time I go to bed it is really bad. So that made me think it was just doing too much or a muscle strain.

I haven't called my doctor, but maybe I should. Thanks so much for your help.

I hope bedrest helps you!

Hugs, Stacey

Hey Stacey! Well, it was weird. I had a ton of swelling in my feet and hands...so much so that my feet were unrecognizable as MY feet! And then 2 weeks ago my blood pressure was up over the "normal" range and there was protein in my pee. So they had me do a preeclampsia blood panel test and a 24-hour urine test where they collected my urine for a full 24 hours. And those all came back showing I DID have preeclampsia...but then my blood pressure went down and has been normal ever since. Weird! And since I've been on bedrest, my feet are back to almost normal, with very little swelling.

AND, I haven't had that pain under my right breast anymore either!

You should definitely tell your doctor. It could certainly be little baby's foot up under there, and I'm sure your doctor is checking your BP and urine for any other signs of preeclampsia, but it can't hurt to be careful and have them check for the liver thing or any other things that could cause that pain.
