Child Abuse and Police Clearances does your state require it for dealing with kids?

Would you let your child/children work with anyone that did not have clearances if your state requires it to work with children? Or to be honest even if the states don't! Is it a federal requirement, does anyone know? School, sport teams, gymnastic classes, cheerleading squads, etc?

I know our school will not allow any parent to work with children unless they do.

    Thanks!

I volunteer at the high school and don't have any clearance, I volunteered at ds' elementary & middle school without any check. I actually supervised a cabin of several teenage girls when ds was in middle school.

I do know that a criminal record check was done if you worked at ds' elementary school

If it a state law I guess I would question that the organization is breaking a law and so is the person working with the kids who hasn't gotten a background check

To answer your question when my ds was younger I didn't worry about if someone had been checked out or not

Our school require it if you are going to be in the school for things or a chaperone. If you are going to go on a trip type chaperone then you have to go in and be fingerprinted and all that.

Scouts: all the leaders and parent volunteers that are on any committees or are going on outings with the kids have to be back ground checked and take course.

Baseball it is just parent volunteers--no check on anything

Most jobs that require a license by the state also require a background check/update. I know my license has things spelled out very clearly on how I would have to report any sort of incident or arrest

We had to get fingerprinted in the mid 1980's through early 1991. I was a pre-school teacher and had taught there for several years then I guess the law changed and fingerprinting was recquired. I would think state law recquires teachers, child care workers and volunteers at hospitals and schools to be fingerprinted. You could check out your state law to make sure. Never know who is a perv these days.

Fingerprinted for teaching in public school. I don't think the volunteers in schools are fingerprinted; not sure. I just know they have to have a TB clearance.

You have to be fingerprinted at our school if you volunteer in any capacity where you have direct contact with a student. Duties like copying or correcting papers, or filing, etc., do not have the requirement.

WE have to have full criminal reference checks done here. I get them done yearly as I work for the school board but all volunteers have to as well. All social teams require them as well.

To volunteer at the kids' schools, we've had to have criminal background checks done every year. They didn't require fingerprints.

As a teacher, I had to have a criminal reference check done may years ago. Since then, I have to make an "offence declaration" every year. I'm not sure if they ever actually do another check or just take my word for it that I haven't committed any crimes.

Our volunteers all need a criminal reference check, too.

(No fingerprints needed for the check, though... you just go into the police station, provide them with identification and they run your name to check for charges.)
