I'm wondering if someone can shed some light on this message that someone keeps leaving on our answering machine.
They started back in Dec, calling every once in a while..."I am so-so from ---- Municipal Services please call back and reference # is Z--." They leave a 800# to call back. It's a different person each time.
We've been ignoring the msg thinking it's a scam of some sort. They're asking for my DH and the Municipal Services is from a town about 40 miles from here that neither one of us ever goes to.
They're now calling more frequently leaving "it's very important you call back" msgs. DH is pretty sure it's a scam and I'm saying if it was so important they would have MAILED us a letter by now saying they're trying to contact us.
Anyone have any thoughts? (besides calling them to find out)

Google the phone number and see what you come up with. There's a website called "who's calling me" or something like that and lots of times when you google the number that site will come up with tons of other people saying what info. they've got on it, etc.
Otherwise, look up the real, local number to that municipal utility's office and call them and ask if they are calling you.Raising children is like being pecked to death by chickens.

I had something similar happen last year...It ended up being a bill collector trying to locate my stepfather ( of ALL people) ....I finally just called and gave them the reference number and they asked if I knew Richard M_ as I was located as a relative of his. I am thinking this may be something similar a
Yes, if it was THAT important someone would be contacting you by mail or in person.Brandy (37)

Can't you just look up the number for municipal services in that town, call it and ask if they have been trying to get ahold of you?

My first thought was a bill collector. I get msgs like that ALL the time (for ppl I've never heard of that used to have this number--I've had it for 5 yrs but still get calls).
When I get angry enough I call the numbers & find out what it is about then blast them & tell them to take my number off their list b/c I have never laid eyes on the person.Kristin single mom to

I would either look up the number for municiple services for that city and call that number, do the reverse number thing or call the number from someone other phone and see who the claim to be I would not give them any info over the phone though.

I bet DH has already googled the # & that's why he says it's a scam. I googled it just now and 10 pages come up with people all over getting harrassed by this exact 800#. I'm seeing people say "collections agency" and saying they owe $ when they don't (which would be us, too). I just assume it's that important they would be sending us a letter by way of US mail. My neighbor doesn't even have an answering machine now I'm seeing why that might not be a bad idea-to unplug it.
