    Strep breath?

I understand that when a toddler has strep throat, he may have a certain odor to his reath. Can anyone tell me what "strep breath" smells like?

    thanks

Never heard that. I had heard white spots in the back of hte throat....but with kids it's hard to tell. Sometimes the only "symptom" of strep is a stomach ache. If in doubt get it checked out by a MD.
I'll follow this to see if anyone knows the smell though

Yes, the breath is HORRID. Beyond normal bad breath. My eldest dd has had strep numerous times and this is a tell tale sign, beside the others, like stomach upset and severe headache.

The smell is horrible! Kind of hard to explain. To me it smells a little like metal, You know that taste you get in your mouth after taking certain meds. It also smells like an infection. It's really just a very weird smell, but once you have smelled it you never forget it!

it is YUCK!! i can smell it immediately. it's not bad breath it's actually an odor from the infection of strep so it's different than bad breath and it's potent.

What if your child all of a sudden had this horendous odor but had no other strep signs (i.e headache, stomach ache, sore throat)? Could it still be strep? Aweek ago DD had a stomach ache for one day but only off and on. Nothing debilitating. Then this breath---eeee gods! Could it still be strep?

My son's best friend just had a culture for strep - and had NO symptoms at all but was positive. The only way they knew to culture her was that everyone around her kept getting strep. She was the only common link. So yes, your child can have strep without symptoms.
